Phoenix continuous hinges set new standards C
ontinuous hinges, sometimes known as
piano hinges after their original use on piano keyboard lids, provide a visually neat and extremely strong and versatile hinge jointing solution for a wide variety of industries and applications, ranging from automotive assemblies, general engineering and cabinet hardware, to high security doors and bespoke architectural projects. Compared to the use of several shorter butt hinges, no rebate is required, with the continuous hinge being surface fitted to both door and frame. Cut down to match the full length of the door, continuous hinges provide alignment over the whole length of the door, as well as achieving even distribution of the load. As part of its comprehensive range of Phoenix brand hinge options, master hinge makers Cooke Brothers has announced that it is one of the first UK manufacturers to supply continuous hinges that have been fully tested and certified to BS EN 1935:2002
standard, grade 14. Further advances in the Cooke Brothers ongoing programme of product design and development resulted in the company’s CE marked 56015/6 fire rated range of stainless and mild steel continuous hinges being successfully
Continuous hinges provide a visually neat and extremely strong and versatile hinge jointing solution for wide variety of industries and applications
tested to grade 15, 200kg door loading, in preparation of the revised specifications called for in BS EN 1935. The Phoenix continuous hinge range offers lightweight, medium duty, heavy duty and architectural hinge options. Typical applications include: security hinges incorporating interlocking bolts and with the option of through connections for electronic locks, alarm systems and electronic door closers; bespoke hinges for automotive applications designed to customer specifications; heavy-duty hinges specifically designed for use in conjunction with security and armoury
fabrications; and the company’s latest anti ligature and advanced bearing interleaf continuous hinges are specified for use in institutional environments where chamfered profile hardware and the reduced gap between door and frame are major factors in the specification process. Whatever the hinge requirement there
is a Phoenix product to suit the most exacting specification, with the option of materials including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass. Open leaf sizes range from 19mm up to 250mm, with the option of non-standard sizes available upon request. Standard material thickness range from 0.5mm to 5mm and the company offers a wide choice of finishes including self-colour, powder coated and plated. With a determination to remain at the forefront in hardware, Cooke Brothers will continue to advance new standards in hinge technology.
