he formation of condensation inside distribution boxes can have a serious effect on the reliability and safety of distribution boards inside. Ironically, the more effectively the enclosure is sealed against moisture ingress, the more susceptible it is to condensation. The launch of Spelsberg’s AK Air finally sees an answer to the problem. When an enclosure is exposed to regularly changing temperature, if it’s positioned outside for example, the air inside will expand and contract as it heats and cools. This will, in turn, create pressure differences to the air outside, meaning that air will be drawn into the enclosure; this air contains moisture which will form condensation. Almost every enclosure on the

market is susceptible to water ingress of this type, especially enclosures with a high IP rating as the improved seals serve to create a greater pressure differential. To combat the formation of condensation, ventilation components are already available on the market. However, these need to be specified separately and fitted to standard enclosures. This increases cost and installation time and can harm the enclosure’s IP rating if not installed correctly. To help its customers reduce costs and guarantee reliability, Spelsberg has launched what it claims is the first distribution box to feature an integrated ventilation system as standard. The AK Air offers end-users IP65 protection, making it suitable for most outdoor and industrial applications. There are two ventilation elements integrated into the back of the enclosure which protect against the ingress of foreign particles yet allow air transfer into the box to regulate temperature and pressure. Because the elements are
integrated as standard, end-users can be confident that the IP rating has not been compromised and delivery deadlines won’t be missed. Like the rest of the AK range from Spelsberg, the AK Air is constructed from tough, UV resistant polycarbonate, and features several mounting options which do not compromise the integrity of the unit’s sealing. Hinged, transparent doors provide easy access to
the distribution boards once installed and provide a well finished aesthetic suitable for high quality installations. The AK Air range is stocked in Spelsberg
UK’s midlands based warehouse meaning that most orders can be satisfied next day. Where required, customised entry points can be machined by Spelsberg in-house using its CNC capabilities.
