200 hours. Now, using EEC One, we’re able to do that in four to eight hours, and have great confidence that the re- sults are correct.” After creation of schematic dia-

grams, the same input/output (I/O) configuration data is transferred to the company’s RSLogix 5000 pro- grammable automation controller (PAC) and programmable logic con- troller (PLC) programming software from Rockwell Automation to gener- ate the PLC software. The engineers at Joa estimate that this capability to automate the creation of schemat- ic diagrams with EEC One and inte- gration with RSLogix has saved at least 50 percent on design time com- pared to earlier design approaches. The EPLAN tool also supports Joa’s striving towards modular design and manufacturing methods. Although Joa was familiar with

EPLAN since some of their cus- tomers had requested documents in the EPLAN format, it wasn’t until the launch of EPLAN’s Electric P8 program in 2006 that Joa’s manage- ment was convinced to switch to this software. Electric P8 code met the company’s desire for a stand-alone CAD technology with a strong data- base architecture that wasn’t an Auto- Cad add-on and would integrate well with a Microsoft operating system

System McHenry, IL — The Micro Mark portable dot peen marker from Kwik- Mark Inc. has a compact (3 x 5 x 6-in.) head size, and a generous 1.0 x 2.5-in. marking field to suit most industrial marking applications, making it suit- able for hand-held applications as well as on-machine integration.

(OS) environment. Zeinemann ex- plains: “If you understand databases and how a graphical database works, you immediately see the power in EPLAN.” He adds: “That’s what we’ve continued to do here over the past four to five years, leverage that database and understand how that works.” Although all of Joa’s machine

products are based on custom orders, as much as 80 percent of the content of these products can be based on stored, standardized modules in EPLAN. In addition, upgrading to Electric P8 version 2.3 provided an ef- fective means to begin sending two-di- mensional (2D) EPLAN layouts as .dwg files to enclosure manufacturers to expedite production of the equip- ment cabinets for each custom order.

For those in need of smaller

files, Joa offers EPLAN documenta- tion in smart .pdf file format for use on mobile devices or desktop comput- ers. Many customers appreciate this flexibility since it allows a complete set of documents-as many as 100 pages-to be reviewed by maintenance or engineering staff on a tablet or laptop computer. Zeinemann joked: “I measure our print packages in inches instead of numbers of pages.” He observed: “It would take a suit- case to carry a whole set in printed form.” Eventually, Joa will likely archive all parts data, allowing such information to be accessed by com- puters with touch screens through- out the manufacturing plant. Joa manufactures a wide range

of specialized products, including dis- posable products such as baby dia- pers, sanitary napkins, and inconti- nence pads. Using EPLAN and EEC One to automatically create schemat- ic diagrams and help drive its RSLogix 5000 software generator en- ables Joa to save hundreds of hours in design time and significant labor costs for each machine it builds. By automating most of the electrical de- sign and software creation, the com- pany can design workflows more effi- ciently and effectively. Contact: EPLAN Software &

PEMTRON brings unparalleled accuracy and ‘Living Color’ to your Inspection process.  Revolutionary new color imaging brings

a life-like dimension to your AOI and SPI inspection. There’s no need for the operator to use a microscope, and PEMTRON’s color imaging system gives the software the ability to identify features on the surface of the PCB, from solder paste prints to lifted leads. Inspection is faster, more selective, more accurate, and more true-to-life.

“hand shaking” with other machinery when required, and allows importing data from external files. The Micro Mark provides automatic line center- ing to the part whether it is single or multiple lines, graphics or both with no measuring or operator input re- quired. This is perfect for marking around parts such as shafts, pipes and more. The Micro Mark is a smart solution for permanent part marking. Contact: Kwik Mark, Inc., 4071
