July, 2015 Measurement Specialties: Small Profile Pressure Sensor

Hampton, VA — Measurement Spe- cialties, now part of TE Connectivity (NYSE: TEL), has released a new

small profile, media compatible, piezoresistive silicon pressure sen- sor. Called the 85BC, the new rugged

sensor is suitable for use in harsh ap- plications including medical instru- ments, process control, fresh and waste water measurements, partial vacuum gas measurement, pressure transmitters and tank level systems. Designed without a head-

er for industrial applications where compatibility with cor- rosive liquid and gas is re- quired, this 13mm sensor is housed in a 316L stainless steel package that utilizes sili- con oil to transfer pressure from the stainless steel di- aphragm to the sensing ele- ment.

The 85BC pressure sen-

sor is offered in a weldable package or with a variety of standard threaded process fittings. These in- clude 1/4 NPT, 1/8 NPT and 1/4 BSP for easy integration into up-to-date equipment, with custom process fit- tings available upon request. A six- pad ceramic substrate, containing laser-trimmed resistors that provide wide temperature compensation and offset correction, is attached to the sensor’s package. An additional laser trimmed

gain set resistor can be used to adjust an external differential amplifier and provide span interchangeability to within ±1 percent of the 75mV to

infusion pumps, the low cost sensor provides a non-linearity of ±0.3 per- cent across its standard pressure ranges from 0-15 psi to 0-300 psi. The sensor’s wide compensated

temperature range spans from –20 to +85°C, and it has a typical zero pres- sure output of 100mV. The 85BC has an operating temperature range of –40 to +125°C and comes in absolute

and gage formats. Contact: Measurement Special-

BGA Emulation Socket Adapter from Ironwood

Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics’ new high performance BGA Socket Adapter, LS-BGA1924A-05, allows the user to convert the compression mount BGA socket which needs mounting holes (in target PCB) into conventional through-hole soldering options. The adapter consists of ma-

chined Phosphorous Bronze pins pressed into an FR4 wafer. The top side of adapter has gold-plated pads

to receive socket interconnect and the bottom side has 0.008-in. (0.203mm) diameter pin tails. The
