nice and flat on the bench. Drilling these holes as an afterthought in a fully as- sembled structure is a bit awkward and not always accurate. Go ahead, ask me how I know this (GRRRRR!). I try to make gluing or attachment provisions as I proceed with construc- tion, keeping in mind the larger the glu- ing surface, the stronger the attachment grip. If the braces do not show through the windows or doors (from any angle), make the braces as large as practical.
Right: Smaller structures may be so light they need to be weighted. To do this, I create a fl oor that not only keeps the structure square, but also supports the lead weight.
Below: Pins can also be used to hold fragile stair- ways in place on wooden structures. Careful drill- ing of slight small holes allow the pins to press-fi t snuggly and align with the structure.
