ith the New Year, comes new challenges and opportunities for the IT channel. Our recent research, unveiled at the 2014 EMEA Member and
Partner Conference, revealed that 70% of the UK channel is undergoing business transformation.
Tis transformation will be driven by changing business challenges facing your customers, as Paul Tomlinson, MD of Mirus IT and vice-chair of CompTIA’s UK Channel Community, explains: ‘In 2015, the need for 24-hour business continuity, desire to tap into the marketing goldmine of “Big Data”, and new laws such as the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Bill, will drive an explosion in the data storage market. Meanwhile, high-profile cloud “outages”, combined with an increased need to maintain connectivity will drive a boom in hybrid cloud models.’
A golden opportunity
However, Tomlinson sees regulated industries as the area with the most potential. ‘New legislation is opening up opportunities across vertical markets; 65% of British financial services companies plan to increase investment in IT to aid regulatory compliance, while 80% of UK law firms say that upgrading IT systems is their top priority. Tere’s no doubt regulated industries are a golden opportunity for the channel in 2015’.
To help the channel capitalise on this ‘golden opportunity’, CompTIA is developing a collection of ready-made business tools and educational resources. Te ‘Dealing with Regulated Businesses’ toolkit will include sales and marketing resources, cutting-edge market intelligence on each vertical, and a ‘Quick Start Guide’ to becoming a successful IT solutions provider in verticals such as energy, legal services and financial services. As well as helping users to become ‘trusted experts’ in each vertical these tools will also give the UK ‘first- mover advantage’ in these sectors.
Stay ahead of the curve
Further research and many other resources are in the pipeline to help the UK channel stay ahead of the curve in 2015. All CompTIA research and resources are informed by, and developed in collaboration with industry. CompTIA’s open access model means that these will be available to premier members, with the majority also available at no cost to registered users.
