So, 2015 is upon us and whilst we seem to have been talking about the impending retirement of Windows Server 2003 forever, that shouldn’t detract from the fact that the countdown clock is well and truly ticking.
H
aving had such a long notice period it is perhaps human nature that so many have put off taking action as more immediate issues and the hustle and bustle of daily business takes precedence. However when Big Ben chimed the New Year in those still to take any action should at least have shuffled a little nervously in their chair.
Chances are that you have already alerted your customers to the line in the sand that July 14th 2015 represents but let’s face facts, whilst there will be a small percentage of SMB customers that will fall in to the ‘Early adopters’ category, most will only look at changing their IT infrastructure when they absolutely have to and at a time of their own choosing. Tey do not like being told that they have no choice, even when in reality they don’t, so rather than offering a plethora of technical reasons why they have to move on from Windows Server 2003, here are just a few reasons why they should want to.
Microsoft’s latest server operating system, Windows Server 2012 R2, has well over 300 new features that will help keep their business bang up to date and competitive.
Windows Server 2003 was built for a world of PC’s based in offices. That world no longer exists and Windows Server 2012 R2 brings features to the table that allow users to be mobile and use different kinds of devices.
Modern Servers are a lot more powerful and significantly more efficient than those available in 2003 or even 2010. A new HP ProLiant Gen9 Server running Windows Server 2012 R2 will enable them to expand their business and reduce energy-related operating expenses.
With all the attention and focus, right now is the perfect time to upgrade their infrastructure and take advantage of some cracking deals.
Above all, let’s make sure that everyone remembers why Windows Server 2003 is being retired. Twelve years is a good innings, especially in a world that has seen so many changes during that time, and any hardware running Windows Server 2003 has probably had its day and may well be holding back those still using it.
