Furthermore, how is the corporate client supposed to have any kind of meaningful discussion with suppliers if their policy is to allow employees to do what they want? This suggestion of giving travellers more control simply sounds like passing the buck back to the customer to do the research – in which case what is the raison d’être of the TMC? And why would that be? Ah yes – because ‘with so many different places to book’, the TMC workload has likely grown, while technology to simplify access to the growing booking options has failed to keep pace perhaps?
I would suggest the answer to a growing number of travel booking options is to develop the technology to deal with them and, in conjunction with the corporate customer, to focus in on the travel suppliers most suited to their travel profile. Surely that, in essence, is the value that TMCs claim to bring to the party? Not the virtual anarchy being proposed here.

BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT BACKS GATWICK BID FOR SECOND RUNWAY IT IS SELF-INTEREST, BECAUSE GATWICK, being more distant than Heathrow, equates to less competition. LHR is more central to the south east and better connected. If you live in Herts/Beds/ Bucks, LHR is far better. Best let the decision come from the unbiased commission. Personally, I see no reason why Heathrow and Gatwick can’t both get an extra runway.

you that Heathrow needs a third runway, and Gatwick a second one, purely to provide robustness of service. While we are at it, let Stansted have one if it wants it. None are going to be built using taxpayers money and would provide substantial construction work for UK companies, boosting GDP and employment. When they eventually come into use they would cut per-movement emissions by reducing delays for departures and arrivals. There would also be increased employment at the airports, so more GDP and tax revenue. So let each airport do its own thing and get on with it, not procrastinate for another 30 years. What’s not to like?
WHO SHOULD MAKE THE BBT HOTLIST 2015? IT’S GOOD TO CELEBRATE new companies, but innovation is coming from existing players, particularly in terms of technology. Two recent examples are: the new version of the British Airways app that, with the new iOS 8, sends push notifications about the gate being open or the lounge wifi password without you having to have the app open; and the new Easyjet app, which allows you to check in by taking a photo of your passport.
ANYTHING SHARING ECONOMY RELATED, so the likes of Uber, Airbnb should be on the list again. And car sharing – I believe this will be scaring many traditional travel operators.
