BUSINESS TRAVEL SHOW: BUYERS SET THE AGENDA

Buying Business Travel is pleased once again to be official media partner to the Business Travel Show for 2015. The show has gathered a team of senior buyers to join its advisory board, to bring their knowledge and expertise to the conference education programme. Here, BBT talks to two advisory board members.

‘millennials’. We have a growing number of employ- ees from this generation, and we need to see the world through their eyes, and implement mobile solutions focused on their needs.

What are the top issues facing travel managers at the moment?

The majority of the com- panies with a mature travel programme are now at the stage where their concerns are focused on challenging themselves on how to provide comfort and wellbeing to their travellers, rather than on actual problems. I will be focusing my efforts on the following: applying internal audit methods to evaluate travel management company efficiency and price optimisa- tion; implementing solutions that allow us to focus on duty-of-care; and finding the best mobile solutions that add value.

What will be the biggest issues affecting you in 2015? Adapting the company process to further accom- modate the trends of the

How important is it for you to attend the Business Travel Show?

I face the daily challenge of applying the company vision while keeping our employees happy. As a dynamic and young corporation, it is es- sential we keep up-to-date with all the trends and solu- tions on the market. The show consolidates essential net- working, and brings together new suppliers and solutions while providing interesting educational sessions.

What topics are you looking forward to hearing more about at this year’s Business Travel Show? I expect to have the op- portunity to participate in discussions on how to increase business travellers’ satisfaction and well-being, balanced with the right dose of innovative procedures on how to implement duty-of- care preventive measures.

What are today’s top issues facing travel managers? Airline joint ventures – more and more airlines in certain alliances are pooling their sales efforts and resources and, by doing that, reducing the leveraging and negotiation possibilities corporates have. The travel world is also be- coming extremely complex, in a constantly changing environment, and it’s become very challenging to keep on the top of all this change.

What will be the biggest issue affecting you in 2015? Integrating new business into our existing travel manage- ment strategy and bringing top-level management up to speed on what is going on in the travel arena. Also, gaining top executives’ understanding that travel management is not only about booking an airline ticket, but also about managing

a very complex supply chain of providers.

You offered to continue on the show’s advisory board for 2015. Why? With my input, I want to contribute towards keeping the event as dynamic and valuable a communication platform for travel managers in Europe as possible. I also really enjoy the exchanges and brainstorming that go on in our board meetings.

How important is it for you to attend the show? With the increasing com- plexity I mentioned, and the short time we have to cope with everything that is going on, it is so important to have a platform where we can exchange ideas, and meet suppliers and peers.

What topics are you looking forward to hearing more about at the show? Stakeholder management, change management and how to better communicate with travellers. Also, finding out how to automate process- es in different areas of travel, such as hotel negotiation and airfare auditing.
