AS TECHNOLOGY CONTINUES TO DRIVE THE AGENDA for our sector, it seems we should be allaying those old- fashioned fears that the cost of progress is reducing people to a line of code: ‘I am not a number...’ This BBT edition reflects a landscape where technology enables more focus on individuals, rather than working against them. In our Tech Talk update (p12) and conference reports (p14-18) we see technology gearing towards unique users, and arguments for better travel policies that reflect employees’ different roles and needs.
Our maverick traveller feature (p64) also finds that policy itself can be the cause of ‘rogue’ behaviour, while the HR feature (p60) explores a shift towards a more holistic approach to travel programmes, where adding the ‘human factor’ can improve compliance – and staff retention. And a fascinating look at journalists working in the world’s conflict zones vividly reveals the burden on those managers responsible for life and limb (p54).
But of course, costs will always be a crucial factor, and our 2015 forecast on p45 analyses price predictions as well as other trends for next year.
