THE UK AND US HAVE STARTED screening passengers arriving from countries hit by the Ebola virus. Passengers travelling from the west African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia will be visually assessed and have their temperatures taken by thermal scanners, with some asked to complete a health questionnaire. Anyone suspected of carrying the virus, which has so far killed more than 4,000 people, mostly in West Africa, will be taken to hospital. The screenings started in the US at five major airports – New York JFK, Washington Dulles International, Chicago O’Hare International, Atlanta International and Newark Liberty International. AMADEUS SUBSCRIBERS CAN NOW BOOK Ryanair fares and full ancillary services as its “significant” partnership starts. It is the first time in ten years that Ryanair fares have been bookable through Amadeus and follows on from a similar deal the Irish carrier announced with GDS firm Travelport earlier this year. Amadeus subscribers will not be subject to any surcharge when booking Ryanair, and the fares displayed via Amadeus will have parity with Ryanair’s other distribution channels, including its website.

A travel ban on flights to and from West Africa has been debated in the US but, so far, President Barack Obama has resisted the calls. He confirmed there would not be a “flat-out travel ban” as current screening measures at airports are working, but has responded by seeking to employ an ‘Ebola czar’.

Several airlines have restricted flights to Ebola- affected countries. British Airways confirmed it has extended the suspension of flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone until December 31, Emirates has suspended flights to Guinea, and Air France has suspended flights to Sierra Leone. • Case study: a buyer and TMC arrange travel from Ebola-affected areas – visit buyingbusinesstravel.com
