ALL ABOUT YOU — AGENT MASTERCHEF 2014

THE WINNER’S REACTION

Judging panel: Louise Tansey, Kiran Selvarajan and Lucy Huxley

Matthew said it took a while for his victory to sink in, and that holding the final in Nidd Hall’s kitchen was a great way to see what Warner Leisure Hotels can offer its guests. “I entered the competition as I am a passionate cook – I probably spend more time in my kitchen than any other room of the house. “I have been trying out recipes and dishes at home for a while with the aim of applying to the BBC’s Masterchef series, and I saw this as a great test of my ability and creativity. The experience is amazing and really opens your eyes to how stressful, exciting and fun it is to work in a professional kitchen. “Before the cook-off, we spent some time with executive chef Kiran doing some molecular gastronomy – making flavoured caviars, foams, airs and powders. They were all things that I had wanted to do at home, but I had been a little wary as they seemed

way out of my comfort zone. Now I have seen how easy they are, I will be doing them all the time. “It was surreal when the result

was announced – it took a couple of seconds to register that my name had been said, as I was convinced that I hadn’t won when Kiran was explaining the judging criteria. “I would like to say well done to Gillian and Benjamin, as their dishes were really good. We all tasted each other’s food while the judging was taking place. Gillian’s parsnip crisps and sauce were great and Benjamin’s steak was tasty. “It would have been easy to have held the competition in a restaurant, but to have it in one of Warner’s hotels was a great way for us to see what’s what and discover what makes guests return time after time. “We had dinner the night before the final and the quality of the food was very impressive. I would like to make a special mention of Anna, the supervisor in the Rawson Restaurant, whose level of service was second to none.”
