The fourth annual Bourne Leisure and Travel Weekly Agent Masterchef competition took place at Nidd Hall Hotel in Yorkshire

Three of the travel trade’s finest culinary talents battled it out to be crowned champion at the fourth annual Bourne Leisure and Travel Weekly Agent Masterchef competition, which took place at the Nidd Hall Hotel near Harrogate. In addition to being crowned Agent Masterchef,

this year’s winner also had their winning dish featured as the centrepiece of the gala dinner at the Travel Brit Awards earlier this month. The three agents battling it out were Benjamin

Ahrens, Travel by Inspire; Matthew Griffiths, Thomas Cook; and Gillian Moorhouse, Disabled Holidays Directory. And following a fierce cook-off in the Nidd

Hall kitchens, Matthew Griffiths was crowned champion for his ‘Lamb in the Spring’ dish. Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief of

“Matthew’s

Travel Weekly and one of the judges alongside Louise Tansey, Bourne Leisure’s national sales manager, and Kiran Selvarajan, Nidd Hall executive chef, said: “I never fail to be amazed by the quality of the dishes served up by our agent finalists, and this year was no exception. “The three finalists battled it out in a real

working kitchen environment under Kiran’s watchful eye, and Matthew really was a deserving winner.” Louise Tansey said: “The standard of this year’s

entries was unbelievably high, and all three chefs incorporated techniques they had learnt from the executive chef that very morning, which really impressed me. Matthew’s lamb was the winning dish for me, though, with its hidden bursts of flavour and fabulous mint caviar. It proved a real winner with all our guests at this year’s Travel Brit Awards.”
