Lux Resorts & Hotels to open first in series of properties across China

Luxury boutique hotel, Lux Lijiang, will open in two stages over the next year. The 30-room property will be
situated on two neighbouring sites in the heart of Lijiang Ancient City, a Unesco World Heritage Site. The first phase, comprising 10 rooms, opens on September 9. The second phase of 20 rooms, incorporating Cafe Lux and a bakery, will open in mid-2015. Under the
terms of a long-term management agreement, the Lux Lijiang
will be the first in a series of luxury boutique hotels across the region. The circuit of properties and bespoke experiences they offer will be known as Lux Tea Horse Road. The project is being developed
by Lijiang Yulong Tourism Corporation, which will own the properties as well as being

responsible for their design and construction, in partnership with Lux Resorts & Hotels, which will manage them. The hotels will be located on the ancient route of the Tea Horse Road, which stretched 1,400 miles from Pu’er in the tea-growing region of Yunnan province, to Lhasa, the 3,500 metre- high capital of Tibet. Belmond adds suites at two Italian properties Belmond has added luxury suites at two hotels in Italy. The Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea in Taormina, Sicily, has six executive junior suites with private balconies and coastal views. A new suite at the Belmond Hotel Splendido in Portofino is the property’s largest and is located on a hillside away from the main building with coastal views.

Starwood to expand in London’s Docklands area Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide plans to expand its Aloft and Element brands with the signing of a dual- hotel development in London. Serenity doubles its presence in Vietnam with Hoi An opening
Serenity Holding will launch a second hotel in Vietnam at the end of August, following the success of the Fusion Maia Da Nang resort. The four-star Alma Courtyard Hoi An will be located in the port town of Hoi An. It will feature 144 rooms in five categories, set in tropical courtyard gardens. The new colonial-style building has been adapted to simulate a traditional Hoi An monastery. The resort promises “a complete

Melia implements safety auditing system in Cuba A safety auditing system has been introduced at three Melia Hotels in Cuba. The group partnered with Cristal International Standards to pilot the assessment of food safety and general hygiene levels in selected facilities through the E-Cristal Food Check and Safety Check modules. The hotels will be the first in Cuba to be assessed by a independent auditor.
