As architects and consulting companies vie with each other for the most ambitious projects, the field is open for both incomers and established companies in the region. With a portfolio featuring many of the Middle East’s high profile projects including Dubai’s Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa, Hyder Consulting Middle East is the region’s leading source of design and engineering expertise. Hyder has delivered outstanding value and innovation on many important, strategic projects across the Gulf during 2012/13, making it the most successful organisation in its sector in the region currently. A UK company, Hyder first began working in the region in Aden in 1914, shortly after the outbreak of the First World War. They quickly established roots
all over the world and grew into a global multinational that has been involved in some of the most iconic structures of modern times. Think Tower Bridge and then Sydney Harbour Bridge and of course Burj Khalifa, at 828 metres the tallest building in the world.
Of 4,000 staff in the global Hyder Consulting group, 1,270 work in the Middle East, fulfilling inspirational projects that contribute to the national and political goals and aspirations of its member states. New Markets
In April 2012, having achieved formal registration as an international business, Hyder was officially launched in Saudi Arabia and rapidly secured a number of important contracts including NWC’s Sewer Model for Riyadh. UKTI was able to help Hyder secure a vital Saudi Arabia Government Investment Authority Licence (SAGIA), to allow work to begin on the contract, a mandatory requirement for all businesses and projects taking place in the Kingdom. Hyder’s expansion in Saudi Arabia during 2012/13 has secured significant new opportunities. Hyder’s five ‘Global Excellence Centres’ in Manila, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Amman, support the GCC business, and the Middle East design centre in Amman, Jordan, was opened in October 2013
