An educated approach
Irish Beauty catches up with Linda Ennis, Managing Director of the Beauty Academy & Make-Up Studio, to find out more about her career and life’s passions.
I ended up in the beauty industry because…I’ve always had a love for the beauty industry and have been applying new make-up looks to my friends since I was 14! I trained as a beauty therapist and then went on to work for Clinique, Estée Lauder and Lancôme. It is important to show your best qualities to employers and to seize opportunities. I was always a hard worker and very determined to do my best for my clients and the companies I worked for.
When I was growing up I wanted to be…Since I was three I wanted to be a teacher. Now I am a teacher of beauty and make-up – it couldn’t get better!
A typical day for me is… First thing I respond to all enquiries and touch base with our salon manager to organise our upcoming promotions, customer events and other salon owners usually ring this time of the year to see who has graduated if they are looking for new employees. Some days I can be dealing with the stress of exams – great days are when the results come and everyone has done well.
The best thing about my job is… The variety. I love seeing people achieve their goals and qualifying in the industry. Also seeing customers happy when they leave the salon looking like Hollywood movie stars, having the privilege to work with brides on their wedding day and watching teenage skin transform – there are so many things I like!

My biggest achievement to date is…Qualifying so many students successfully and watching many of them develop with us and train to become teachers. Also, witnessing many graduates enjoying successful careers within the beauty industry. In addition, getting Make-up Studio professional make-up into the college and salon has also been a highlight.
I am at my happiest when…I am surrounded by colleagues who are skilled and passionate about their jobs and who really care about our clients.
My ideal weekend is…Being at home pottering, long walks in the park, dining out and ice cream drives.
If I could swap lives with someone for the day it would be…Angelina Jolie, not just for her beauty but
because of the wonderful work she does in helping others. I would like to see what she has seen in all of the countries she has visited.
My top beauty secret is… Exfoliation, it takes 10 years off instantly!
My beauty icon is…Audrey Hepburn
My favourite part of the world is… I love Italy, and Bruges in the Wintertime for the Christmas markets.
The best piece of advice I’ve been given is…You should only work for companies where you are passionate about the product or brand that you represent.
