In 1994, Mario Puglisi was assisting his two sisters, who were both aestheticians, with the management of their salon located on the eastern coast of Sicily. It was during a routine trip to purchase wax for the business that Mario would experience an ‘eureka’ moment that would ultimately change the course of his life.


At that time waxing services were becoming increasing popular with both therapists and their clients; however there appeared to be a gap in the industry for a range of natural-based waxing products that would provide a gentler, kinder option yet still ensure highly efficient hair removal. As a direct result, Mario decided to set to work in order to provide the answer. Thus, Rica Wax was born.

market,” explains Mario. “This outlook drove the creation of our unique, patented formula, which includes specific nourishing vegetable oils, Titanium Dioxide, Glyceryl Rosinate, Zinc Oxide and Beeswax that together deliver a wax with vastly superior performance that also provides a much more enjoyable, less painful, experience for the client.”


Waxing lyrical


At Cosmoprof Bologna in 1996, Rica launched its ground-breaking Fruit Wax which instantly thrust the brand to the very forefront of wax producers in Europe. Today, Rica is now firmly established as an international company with presence in more than 60 countries worldwide. “The company has grown to become a global cosmetics brand known for high quality standards, extensive use of natural ingredients, commitment to customer service and to the environment in which we live,” notes Mario.


On Irish shores, Rica has been distributed by Hennessy Hair and Beauty Supplies since 2000. The family-run business based in Cork has over 30 years of extensive industry experience and have their knowledgeable staff on-hand to provide customers at their two locations with product information, insights and advice regarding the brand.


Since its initial inception, Rica has expanded its range of product offerings. After three years in development, the company’s natural, professional hair colour line Colorica launched in 2003. This was subsequently joined in 2008 by a premium body care range entitled Rica

The waxing aspect of the company has also continued to flourish. Currently, the Rica Wax collection now includes a variety of pre and post-wax items, accessorises and home care products to equip professionals with everything they need for their waxing services.


In addition, therapists now have access to a range of in-salon waxes which enable them to tailor treatments to suit the differing needs and demands of their customers. Popular products include Pearl Wax, an iridescence wax for a special depilation experience, whilst the Talcum Relaxing line sees the addition of talcum powder in order to improve adhesion to guarantee optimum results. For small areas such as above the lip and bikini line, the brand’s traditional Hot Wax remains high in-demand. Containing a nourishing mix of vegetable oils to moisturise the skin after depilation and glyceryl rosinate to avoid any skin reactions, the wax guarantees results even on short or coarse hair.


2003 Colorica is launched, a line of professional hair colours made with eight natural ingredients.
