“
Over the last 10 years, Irish Beauty has remained a staple for every beauty professional and I’m incredibly proud of that.
” - Brett Fairholm, founding publisher
always appreciated the importance of controlling where the magazine is distributed. As a trade magazine, IB is written for beauty professionals – not consumers – and we therefore attract advertisers who want to showcase their products to professionals.
“It’s taken time and effort to create our unique database of beauty professionals who are all active within the industry, but it has been worth it as we can now boast the most comprehensive database within the sector. Along with the quality of our editorial, this is what sets us apart from any competitors – companies who advertise with us are confident that their ads will be seen by the right buyers and generate quality sales leads for them.”
Moving forward
Choosing to take a career break, Amy left the magazine in 2006 and was followed into the editorial hot seat by Penny Gray, who had also previously worked for Salon Ireland.
Testament to how the publication has become viewed by the industry, in March 2008 Brett Fairholm was awarded with the Industry Innovator accolade by the Irish Beauty Professionals Association (IBPA) for his work on Irish Beauty magazine.
Penny and Brett continued to grow the magazine successfully, until it was decided that in order to meet the demands of the industry, which at that point was still in its ascension, a larger team needed to be brought on board. In April 2008 the magazine was sold to Associated Irish Therapists Ltd, founded

in 2005 to support Irish therapists, nail techs and salon owners offering business support and comprehensive insurance options.
Speaking at the time, Brett Fairholm said: “I am delighted to see Irish Beauty flourish and grow under this new agreement. Irish Beauty has been close to my heart for four years, and I am glad to be playing a significant role in the success of the publication in the future.”
“Acquiring the magazine enabled us to offer our members an additional benefit to their membership and because we work closely with established publishing firm Guild Press Ltd, who publish the UK’s leading beauty trade title, we knew we could call on their extensive expertise to push the magazine forward,” explains AIT director, Dave Horton.
April 2008 Irish Beauty magazine is sold to Associated Irish Therapists. Brett Fairholm remains an integral part of the magazine’s production, with Dave Horton taking over the role of publisher. Circulation grows to 8,000 copies per issue.
“When Irish Beauty first approached us to advertise with them, we knew it would be an excellent way to make contact with our customers, in fact Creative Academy was Irish Beauty’s first customer! Ten years later we are still happily advertising with IB in every issue and find it an excellent way to keep our loyal customers aware of new product launches / special offers etc. Last year we launched Gelish UV Polish in Ireland; its magnificent success and many awards in such a short period of time really proves that advertising with Irish Beauty works.
“Congratulations to IB on their 100th issue, we look forward to advertising with you for many more issues to come!” - Karen O Neill & Marina Egan Ruane, Creative Academy
“However it was important for us to retain the services and experience of the magazine’s founder so we were delighted when Brett chose to remain with the magazine,” he adds.
IB appointed experienced editor Melissa Dennis along with a team of beauty writers: Claire Matthewman, Sarah Dolman and Donna Taylor. “The team were thrilled when we were invited to edit IB – our first issue was June 2008 and I can still remember the excitement felt when the first copies arrived on our desk,” says Melissa.
June 2008 Melissa Dennis takes over editorship, with her team including Claire Matthewman (right), Sarah Dolman (left) and Donna Taylor (centre).
