“ How can I useSocialMedia effectively to promotemy salon? ”

“A digital presence is essential...”

“If there is one thing I have learned over the past five years studying digitalmedia, it is that a digital presence is essential for the success and growth of any business or product. I have personally found Facebook to be one of the strongest digitalmarketing tools around today, and here aremy top tips that I advise beauty business owners to follow in order to use Facebook tomarket successfully.

“Create a formal Business page. Froma business perspective there is a list of reasons why a business page will work better than a personal page – unlimited fans, access to insights, client reviews, check-ins andmost importantly – advertising!

“Put some thought into your page ‘Header’.When displayed on a newsfeed, the page header is the only thing a user can see about your page. This includes the profile picture, the cover photo, the number of fans and the rating. When designing this, think about branding, making your business stand out, call to actions and whatmakes you different fromyour competitors.

“Defining and understanding your target audience will provide better results in your marketing strategy.Who are your biggest clients and what are their interests? Are they interacting and engaging with your posts? Are your posts aimed at your target audience? When are they online?

“Use insights to track engagement on your page. Under the insights tab, a user can receive up-to-date data on their Facebook page including: likes, post reach, engagement, page views and audience analysis. These powerful features, once studied, can help the business owner define and target adverts and promotions to best suit their target audience and tailor themto get themost in return.”

“SocialMedia is a fantastic way to promote your business nowadays…”

“Start off by putting up your list of treatments and price for each treatment. Take pictures of your salon, treatment rooms, and of work you have carried out in your salon. Clients like to see photos and it entices themin to book that particular treatment.

“Advertise your new retail stock, stating exactly who they are designed for and what they are for. Let people know they are available to purchase at your salon also.

“If you have a quiet day in the salon and you need to get in some appointments, upload an offer such as ‘10%off all treatments today’ or ‘free eyebrow tint with every eyebrow wax’. Take a look at treatments that have slowed down in the past fewmonths and do a promotion focussing on them.

“Have a competition every now and then, as a competition adds a little excitement to the salon. When the winner comes to collect the prize take their photo and upload to your salon page.

“Most importantly don’t forget to thank your clients for their continued support throughout the year and address dates like Easter,Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas.”

“SocialMedia is a low cost effective tool to promote your business…”

“To maximise its effectiveness it is important to post relevant and engaging statuses that will encourage your clients to like, share or comment on your posts as this will ensure they will see your timeline in their news feeds. Post or schedule posts at key times of the day such as first thing in the morning, lunch time, between 5pm-6pm and in the evening as these are the most popular times people will log on to see what is going on in the Social Media world. Ensure if someone comments on your page that you reply to them as soon as possible and use their name as it is more personal.

“When using Twitter if you are currently using a particular product or you are unveiling a new one, find the brand’s home page. Use them in your tweets as they may also retweet thus sharing your information to a wider audience.

“Instagram and Pinterest have also become hugely popular for businesses to show off their work. If clients follow you, ensure to follow them back and tag them in your pictures. Social Media can be very effective when used correctly and all it takes is time and perseverance to make it work for you.”
