China’s Equipment Manufacturing Output Value Exceeded 20 Trillion Yuan
On April 2, vice-minister of MIIT Su Bo said at the
National Equipment Industry Meeting that China’s output value of equipment manufacturing sector has exceeded 20 trillion Yuan, accounting for one-third of the world total and ranking first in the world. According to him, at present, most equipment products in
China are ranking first in the world. In 2013, the power gen- eration equipment reached 120 million kilowatts, account- ing for 60% of the world; shipbuilding completion achieved 45.34 million tons of load capacity, 41% of the world; vehicle production was 22.117 million, 25% of the world; and ma- chine tools was 959,000, which was 38% of the world. Recenlty, the independent equipment manufacturing in China has evolved to a new level. Te manned spacecraft and moon-exploring project, “dragon” manned vehicle, has made significant breakthroughs. Large transport aircraft and passenger aircraft layout has been completed and the research has made important progresses. Major progress has been made in developing emerging industries, such as intelligent manufacturing equipment, marine engineering equipment, advanced rail transportation equipment, and new energy vehicles. At present, the high-end equipment manufacturing industry has accounted for more than 10% of the total output value of the equipment manufacturing industry.
China the Largest Buyer of Industrial Robots
China has overtaken Japan as the largest buyer of indus-
trial robots, according to a trade report. One in five robots sold globally in 2013 was purchased in China, as surging labor costs forced it to speed up productivity via automation, according to the International Federation of Robotics, an industry group based in Germany. About 36,560 industrial robots were sold in China last year, up 60% from 2012, said the IFR report. Japan, which had long taken first place in purchases of industrial robots, accounted for 26,015 units in 2013, followed by 23,679 in the United States. Robot sales in China soared 36% on average from 2008
to 2013, according to the IFR. Te increasing robots demand mainly comes from multinational enterprises, especially the auto industry. As the largest auto market, industrial robots of the auto manufacturing accounts for 60% of the total robots share in China.
Although China is growing quickly in the robots market,
compared with highly automated countries such as Japan, South Korea and Germany, with robot densities in the manufacturing industry ranging from 270 to 400 industrial robots per 10,000 employees, the density in China is rela- tively low at about 23 in 2012.
June 2014
