City on a Hill
What a joy it has been for me over the past couple of years to have the privilege of writing the story of San Jose Bible College, San Jose Christian College and now William Jessup University. My father, ‘Brother Bill’ started the college in 1939 when I was four years old. It has been my home for most of its 75-year journey and still is today!
Te title of the book City on a Hill is the title that was given to our current property by its previous owners, the Herman Miller Office Furniture plant, when they opened for business in 1988. Many of the top executives of the corporation are Christ- followers—thus, the name, which was taken from Matthew 5. It seemed appropriate for the book and especially now for what is happening on the property. In addition, the buildings do sit on a hill!
I wanted to create an honest presentation of the multiplicity of challenges the university has faced, but also the deep sense of gratitude and joy for all the dedicated people God brought together who made personal sacrifices to equip the next generation of leaders.
As we celebrate 75 years of ministry this fall, it is my prayer that hundreds who have been a part of its history will come back to celebrate with us, to connect and reconnect with friends, fellow students, faculty, administration and staff. What an encouragement it would be to so many including me. I would love to see you, reminisce about the past, enjoy what God is doing in the present and
envision the future into which He is leading us. I am thrilled about the momentum and growth and with Dr. Jackson’s leadership, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the passion of our students who are going forth to change the world for our Lord.
I am convinced that with all of the challenges facing us in our world today, we need to find time to celebrate together the goodness of God and His family and to let you know how deeply we appreciate all that you as part of God’s family have done to bring us to where we are today!
