is essential for our future. We want to hear from God and walk with Him wherever He leads.
Recently, I attended the Sacramento Metro Chamber’s Cap-to-Cap Conference held in Washington, D.C. Te conference positions business and community leaders to align around issues concerning the six-county Sacramento region and to work directly with congressional delegates to organize broad-base support for critical initiatives. Higher education was one of the four top priorities of the 2014 Cap-to-Cap program.
While in the region, I had the rare opportunity to enter the Supreme Court and hear the decision on the Greece v. Galloway case that revealed a 5-4 ruling to allow sectarian prayers to be spoken in all kinds of public meetings. I had no idea what case was going to be decided that day but found it interesting that it was this specific case.
I later had the unique privilege to meet with Justice Kennedy (originally from Sacramento) who cast the deciding vote in favor of prayer. One take-away nugget I garnered from our time together
was the importance of being relational. Supreme Court members regularly schedule to have dinner and meet with others who have completely opposing viewpoints. Yet, they have meaningful discussions, broaden their perspectives and continue to move forward.
As we enter into our 75th anniversary celebration, let us give thanks for those who, in the midst of the challenges of their season, lived and loved and fought and sacrificed for the future that God was calling them toward. I have great anticipation for our future, an anticipation established on a wonderful foundation of 75 years of faithfulness.
Join me in gratitude for the past, thankfulness for the present and joy-filled anticipation for the future.
