No.60 A Legacy of Music

Years ago, choirs, trios and quartets were formed to engage students, inspire our surrounding communities and bring joy and hope to our supporting churches through the gift of music. Tese groups performed at summer camps, on the radio, at youth rallies or conventions.

Fast forward 60 years and you will find William Jessup University’s Choir and Orchestra and other musical groups making a name for themselves as they continue this tradition. Now, our students are performing national anthems in front of thousands of people at well-attended sporting events. Many alums have gone on to acquire notable music careers in singing and songwriting, continuing to share God’s glory through the use of music.

Frequently music groups would accompany William Jessup during the early days when he was out preaching to various churches. Today, Jim Jessup, our Director of Church Relations, continues to share the musical talents of our students and music groups with partner churches as he regularly preaches throughout the region.

No.61 NSO

New Student Orientation is Jessup’s way of welcoming all new students and their families to our community. Packed with fun-filled activities, new students are encouraged to connect and participate as these activities are specifically designed to familiarize them with the university and other members of the campus community. NSO culminates with a service day when all new students are encouraged to volunteer in our communities during a full day of service followed by a meal in the home of a staff or faculty member.

No.66 Rec Field

Tere weren’t many ball fields or basketball courts that could double as a rowing facility but the one at SJBC/SJCC certainly could when Coyote Creek overflowed!

Mission Trips

WJU offers domestic and foreign mission trips for students each academic year. Students are encouraged to consider going on at least one mission trip during their time at Jessup. Areas served have included Portland, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Cambodia, Honduras, Kenya, Mexico, Philippines, Romania, South and East Africa, and Haiti.

No.65 Founders Award

Remembering WJU’s first president, William Jessup, this award is conferred upon a male graduate for his outstanding Christian character and commitment to gospel ministry. Tere were years when the recipient of this award brought the crowd to their feet applauding the significant transformation made by these students. Sometimes there isn’t a dry eye in the house when this award is announced.
