The work accomplished far transcends the lifetimes of the individuals involved and the life of the institution, spilling into generations as yet unborn and places in the world as yet unknown.

Students still raise their voices, and sometimes their hands, in chapel, to worship their heavenly Father, before going off to class. Faculty and staff still talk, pray, and sometimes cry with students who are going through difficult life circumstances. Graduates still go out into the world to serve in ever-widening fields, whether in vocational ministry, as of old, or as laypersons, or simply those prepared to lead and serve with Christian integrity in every possible occupation.

Te work accomplished far transcends the lifetimes of the individuals involved and the life of the institution, spilling into generations as yet unborn and places in the world as yet unknown.

And the relationships . . . well, the relationships, with God and with our brothers and sisters . . . those last forever. Not only do they transcend the life of the institution, but they transcend the life of this world. All of us who have had a part in this enterprise will carry changed hearts, changed lives, and deep relationships with us into eternity.

Tere have been and still are students in the dorms who lie awake at night, wondering how they will pay their tuition; survive their broken heart; ever manage to pass that class or find a job when they graduate. Tey are blessed by moments when it all comes together in a joyful epiphany, when they understand something new, when they do something they never thought they could, when they succeed.

Tere have been and still are faculty members who read and grade papers into the night, spend weekend afternoons writing a new lecture and struggle to balance family and work priorities. Tey are blessed by moments when they experience deep pride in the successes of their students, and when they leave a class saying to themselves, “Tis is what I was made to do.”

Tere have been and still are financial supporters, who scrimp and save a bit more and do without so they can give generously to the work of the university. Tey are blessed by moments when they realize a student was able to get through school because of their generosity, or they attend a groundbreaking for a building project they helped finance.

Tere have been and still are staff and administrators who put in extra hours, unpaid, unnoticed, and often unthanked, in order to keep things running smoothly. Tey are blessed by moments of reflection on the past and vision for the future, seeing the span of God’s faithful provision over many years.

God honors the accomplishments of those who dedicate themselves to doing His work, both in and out of institutions. For 75 years, some of the best in each generation have chosen to connect their lives to what is William Jessup University. I am confident that, one day, they will hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Te world has been changed by your faithfulness.”
