General Shipboard Information (cont.)
donation to the Crew Appreciation Fund at the Purser Office. This money is used for crew parties and events. Tipping for services beyond those provided aboard ship are a personal matter and entirely at your discretion. The following are suggested guidelines should you wish to provide a reward for service:
Porterage: Included at hotels and airports, except in Customs area
Dining on Your Own: It is normal to tip anywhere from 10%-18% for satisfactory to extraordinary service. Don’t’ forget to check your bill to see if service was added automatically. Local Guides/Drivers: $2 per person per day
Tipping is not customary in Tahiti; it is not necessary to leave tips in restaurants or tip cabdrivers unless you wish to reward some truly exceptional service.
Transfers and Dayroom
All Air/Sea guests will be provided with transfer service between airport and pier on the day of embarkation/ disembarkation. Upon arrival in Tahiti, our local representative will meet you outside the Customs area. If you have a pre-cruise hotel package or dayroom in Papeete, after clearing your baggage you will be transferred to a hotel where a room will be waiting for your use. Otherwise you will be transferred directly to the ship.
Safety At Sea
The m/s Paul Gauguin fully complies with all national and international regulations with respect to safety at sea. Furthermore, it is in compliance with the International Convention of Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) – 1974 and 1992, International Maritime Organization amendments of 1978, 1981, 1983 and 1992, and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
Lifeboat Drill: Current legal requirements for conducting a muster of passengers are found in the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and mandate that a muster for embarking passengers occurs within 24 hours of their embarkation. Notwithstanding the legal requirement, Paul Gauguin Cruises has identified a best practice that calls for conducting the mandatory muster for embarking passengers prior to departure from port. This muster drill will take place at 5:30PM on embarkation day. We ask that all guests who have arrived be on board for this drill. Guests arriving after the muster has been completed will be provided with individual or group safety briefings upon embarkation that meet the requirements for musters applicable under SOLAS. A second muster drill will take place the following morning for all late-arriving guests. This practice exceeds existing legal requirements and has been adopted to ensure that any mandatory musters or briefings are conducted for the benefit of all newly embarked passengers at the earliest practical opportunity.
