WHY:
Every year the BMC hosts a weekend get-together based around our AGM. This year will be extra special, as it’s our 70th anniversary year: we’re heading south, to the Isle of Portland on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, for a packed weekend of talks, masterclasses, dinner and celebrity speakers.
SATURDAY:
The AGM takes place at 10.30 on Saturday 26 April at the Heights Hotel - our main base for the weekend. The rest of the day is free to boulder, climb or head off walking. You could sign up for a free three-hour climbing masterclass with BMC ambassadors Steve McClure and James McHaffi e (numbers limited; book early) or take part in our free round- island coastal path walk, led by Andy McLaughlin of Wessex Mountaineering Club (average walking level; 3.5 hours). BMC Technical Offi cer Dan Middleton will be there, bringing his equipment busting machine – bring your old kit along and watch it explode. The evening kicks off with a free buffet for BMC members at 7:30pm, followed by a live band: The Devil’s Rejects.
SUNDAY:
A second chance at catching a climbing masterclass (again, book early) at 9am, choose our free Chesil Beach walk and fossil hunt or head out for personal climbing and walking.
HOW TO BOOK: Discounted rates at the Heights Hotel (twin/double rooms £35 pppn; single rooms £55 pppn; both include breakfast) and Portland YHA (bunkbeds £18 pppn; camping £10pp; hot drink & breakfast roll £3.50 pp). Special student club rates also available. These rates are for BMC members for 25 and 26 April 2014 only. If you book directly with the venue you will not receive the BMC discount.
