Legacy society Honor the past. Provide for the future. The science of paying it forward:

Margaret Walker Nilsson ’37 was a biology major who became a research scientist in the groundbreaking development of penicillin for Merck Research Laboratories. As 50th reunion chair in 1987, Peg wrote that while her memo- ries of the old campus were dear, she was also “delighted with the new campus and the growth, reputation, and popularity of our alma mater.” She passed away in 1988.

Twenty-five years after Peg’s death, Cameron Fay ’14 is this year’s Margaret Walker Nilsson ’37 Scholar in Biology. Thanks in part to Peg’s foresight through her generous bequest gift, Cameron is completing his senior year and serving as a professor’s assistant in bio- statistics. Who knows all the ways he will carry Peg’s legacy forward to make the world a better place?
