Epling: It was between one and two years. When we went to our first community, we spent three nights there, just to experience it. We should have visited longer. We didn’t have enough time to check out the things we should have checked out.

Bill Knehans: The primary thing was the apartment. Having looked at a number of other places, the apart- ment here was, hands down, our preference. The other thing was, when you’ve been in the military for 27 years like we were, you miss the day-to-day camaraderie. Our com- munity provides that. Also, on our campus, we have independent liv- ing, assisted living, skilled-nursing care, and rehabilitative services. On the other campus, they have what they call a memory unit, which is for people with dementia. We also have a fitness and vitality
