ike your automobile, your in- vestment plan requires regular maintenance and repair. Anyone who seriously has neglected automobile maintenance knows eventually something bad happens — usually at the worst time. As much as we rely on our automobiles,


how much more do we depend on our in- vestment plans? So at least once a year:  confirm your objectives, risk tolerance, and assumptions haven’t changed. Do you need more income? Are your assumptions about inflation and investment returns ad- equate or do they need adjustment?  evaluate how the markets have affect- ed your plan. What did you earn, and did

that meet your expectations compared to the market? Are your objectives realistic?  identify any unusual additions or


withdrawals from your investment capital. What did you pay in fees — both advisory fees and expenses charged by mutual funds, annuities, and partnerships? Can you cut fees without reducing expected returns?  recalibrate and rebalance your asset al- location to restore the right mix.
