“Over twenty three years since the first meeting of the Association,

membership is still growing .

the members of the Association work in the legal industry. The majority of the rest of the members work in the field of finance – including Trust Directors, Investment Managers and in professions such as HR and marketing within the finance sector as well as a number of members who work for Jersey Finance. Alongside these members other professions are represented including estate agents, recruitment agents and Members of the States of Jersey.

Among the benefits offered by The Whiteley Association is a year round programme of events, some of which are for our members only whilst others are open to guests. Events vary from regular lunches and informal dinners with

speakers, to networking and social events. In 2013 speakers included the Chief Officer of the States of Jersey Police, Mike Bowron QPM, who discussed the island’s crime and prevention focus and Chief Officer for the Jersey Voluntary & Community Partnership, John Pinel, who explained the JVCP’s role.

In March 2013 we held a Charity Breakfast for International Women’s Day in support of Brighter Futures. Members and guests took part in a discussion focusing on the representation of women in the States of Jersey. In March 2014 our speaker will be Deborah Maxwell Chande of Women for Women International, a charity that works with

socially excluded women in eight countries where war and conflict have devastated lives and communities.

Over the last 3 years the Association has supported the local charity Brighter Futures. The charity offers vital services for Jersey families and members have raised funds and given their time in support of the charity’s work.

The Association’s Annual General Meeting is held each November and in 2013 a new Chairman was elected. After serving her three year term, Jane Thorp handed the reins over to Martha Bernstein who has been a member for the last 20 years and also acts as the coordinator for the Association setting

up the meetings and arranging the speakers.
