an innovative professional design company that

incorporates Mark’s 40 years of experience, with the latest computer visualization to produce high quality but affordable and practical designs for many different building types.

Fluid Architecture, as the name suggests, epitomizes design that is flowing in layout and visually to enhance its surroundings and is elegant, functional, eco friendly and appropriate. They have obtained approvals for many domestic and commercial clients that have surpassed client expectations.

Using the latest sophisticated 3D design software, they create schemes with life- like realism, allowing clients and Planning to clearly visualize what is intended, which helps in gaining approvals.

Beyond the initial design and planning process, Fluid Architecture also provide detailed services to get the building constructed on site, right through to completion of the final building to meet the needs of their clients.

We define successful architecture as the art of combining space, light, textures and colour, in a sustainable way that will, first and foremost delight and enrich the lives of our clients and where appropriate, create designs that will also be appreciated by the general public.

Key to any successful project is to give sufficient time to obtain and understand the clients project brief. With residential projects you have to go beyond this and get to know your clients current lifestyle and their personal aspirations.

Some clients know exactly what they want to achieve and are able to convey the vision they have in their head. Others might only have a rough idea of what they

modelling of existing buildings to bring them up to client expectations for modern hi- tech contemporary eco living. Two such projects have

need and no idea of how to achieve that. My skill, is to discuss in detail the needs of each individual client, whether that be for a residential project or commercial project, understand the way they live or work and provide solutions to achieve their practical requirements commensurate with their budget and hopefully through our skills, to surpass their own vision.

Among Fluid Architecture and Fluid Interiors projects, has been a carefully considered response to a client’s wish to reconstruct their existing home, on a very sensitive site, embracing passive and eco technology. Using both traditional and modern materials, Fluid Architecture created a design that optimizes the use of sunlight through orientation, taking full advantage of stunning views and allowing the design to sit comfortably within its special site.

Another multi-house development was conceived as a new contemporary version of the Jersey Vernacular style by using local materials in a different way, coupled with modern building techniques to create practical imaginative homes that suit today’s modern lifestyles.

Fluid Architecture’s response to a sloping site with views out to sea was to create three stepped buildings that would enhance and respond to the site to provide a lush, green terraced foil to enhance the Green Backdrop Zone. This design approach, on a very difficult site, received praise from the Jersey Architectural Commission on it’s well conceived and executed concept.

One of Fluid Architecture’s fortes is re

successfully gained permission to turn very ordinary 1960s and 1970s dwellings into stunning contemporary open plan homes. The former included an extension that included sliding and folding doors to open up the building to the garden, the later involved some lateral thinking to flip the entrance of the house to the opposite side allowing the introduction of a new large expanse of glazing to take full advantage of stunning north coast views.

Listed buildings form a significant proportion of buildings in Jersey and over the years Mark and his team at Fluid Architecture have worked on various historical buildings. As our link to the past, Fluid Architecture believes that it is right that the best examples are protected, but should be given new life through imaginative and sensitive development.

Healthcare is another area of expertise and Mark considers his healthcare projects to be ‘among the most satisfying he has undertaken.’ These included a number of projects at the Jersey General Hospital including the Day Surgery project, which is arguably one of the most complex projects ever under taken in the island.

The success of this project resulted in delight from staff and patients and ‘Project of the Year’ at the 2008 Jersey Construction Awards.
