row.The tips may be cut back, but not too much or you will reduce your crop.

Tissue culture plugs are the most disease-free stock available. They have been grown in 1¾" x 2" cells and have well-developed root systems with tops about 3 to 5 inches tall. Don’t be fooled by their small size – they pop into growth very quickly with little transplant shock and will give you plantings that last for years.

RASPBERRIES Pick your own healthy treats.
Our hardy raspberry plants are nursery matured, well-rooted, bar- eroot plants. Black raspberries are sent as tissue culture plugs (see note below). By planting both summer bearing and everbearing types, you can enjoy fresh raspberries nearly all summer.
30320–Zones 3-8–(PPAF)–The best everbearing raspberry for the Upper Midwest. Autumn Britten begins bearing at least 3 to 5 weeks earlier than Heritage with 50% of its total crop pro- duced during the fi rst 3 weeks of harvest, ensuring a good crop even with an early freeze. Fruits are large, fi rm and cohesive with outstanding full, sweet fl avor. Cold hardy and tolerant to heat for
southern growers. Select #1 plants. 3 for $11.95; 6 for $21.95; 12 for $39.95; 24 for $74.95; 48 for $139.95 Polana Everbearing
30338–Zones 3-8–(PPAF)–The earliest ripening everbearer. Developed in Poland, Polana has fruit ready to pick by early Au- gust in northern areas, nearly 4 to 6 weeks earlier than most fall- bearing raspberries. With good moisture and an extra dose of fer- tilizer, they will continue to bear amazing yields until frost. The glossy red, conical berries are large and fi rm with zesty raspberry
fl avor. Select #1 plants. 3 for $11.95; 6 for $21.95; 12 for $39.95; 24 for $74.95; 48 for $139.95
Caroline Everbearing
30324–Zones 4-8–(P.P.10412)–Higher in vitamins and antioxi- dants. Research at Ohio State University found Caroline produced more cancer fi ghting antioxidants, beta carotene, and vitamins A, E, and C than other raspberries. The fruits are very large, fi rm and cohesive with an exquisite fl avor. Plants ripen at least 2 to 3 weeks earlier than Heritage and even earlier in warm seasons, resulting in a longer harvest period. Plants have good tolerance to root rot and yellow rust. Very vigorous, highly productive canes grow up to 6 feet tall and require sturdy support. Widely adapted, per-
forming well all across the country. Select #1 plants. 3 for $11.95; 6 for $21.95; 12 for $39.95; 24 for $74.95; 48 for $139.95
PRUNING EVERBEARING RASPBERRIES The preferred and most popular method is to cut back canes at ground level in the fall after a killing frost. This will eliminate a sum- mer crop, but will produce an earlier and larger fall crop. If a more continuous supply of berries is preferred, cut canes to 2½ feet while dormant. Remove these canes the next summer after fruiting.
