NORTH AMERICA BRIEFING

Atlanta Braves’ New Stadium

The Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball team has unveiled plans to build a new stadium, partly with public funds. The team will move from its existing home, Turner Field, in 2017, which is when the Braves’ current 20-year lease ends. Sixty acres of land have been secured for construction at the Cobb County site. Public money will be used to help with the build, but no details have yet emerged as to the precise level of taxpayer funding. However, the total cost of the new ballpark will be around US$672m, with the Braves responsible for covering any budget increases.
