GA: Savannah Arena City has hired consultant for a forthcoming arena feasibility study. The study will include a full project management plan to outline the general concept, project scope, site options, and also possible funding sources. Depends on positive vote on SPLOST funding for public projects.


IL, Chicago: DePaul University


basketball arena Multi-use arena for the DePaul University basketball team at McCormick Place. Owner: Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA). Funding: MPEA and DePaul  Pelli Architects – Fred Clarke ($7.2m). Capacity 10,000 Cost $173m

IL: Detroit NBA Arena The new owner of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, Mike Illitch, wants to build a new arena to set an industry standard. City is showing interest.


IL, Rockford: MetroCentre  entrance, video scoreboard, 11 corporate suites, club boxes, 200-person group terrace, retail centre, additional bathrooms, and new concession stands and food courts. Client: MetroCentre Authority. Renovation to support purchase of American Hockey League franchise, the elevation of the Rockford IceHogs into the American  the Chicago Blackhawks. Cost $23m


IL: University of Illinois Arena Studying the feasibility of building a new basketball arena ($100m) as well as renovating the Assembly Hall ($70m) Design Study: AECOM.


IN, Buffington: Harbor Arena Multipurpose proposal. Developer: Majestic Star Casino. Planning request with Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA).


IN, Indianapolis: Pepsi Coliseum  home of the Indiana Pacers. Renovation to bring the building up to modern day standards and provide new fan comforts for the Indiana State Fair and other events throughout the year. New seating bowl and elevated public concourse. Architect: Populous.


Capacity 7,200 (hockey), 8,170 (end stage concerts), 9,200 (centre stage concerts)


Completion August 2014 KY, Lexington, University of Kentucky:


Rupp Arena Replacement project announced by Lexington mayor but consideration being given to renovation rather than replace. Plan to remove shops and convention center from around Rupp. Five year project anticipated. All chair- back seating, wider concourses, more restrooms and upgraded concessions, luxury suites and other levels of premium seating. New scoreboard. Market analysis  IMG College and International Stadia Group. Operator: Lexington Center Corp. (CEO Bill Owen). UK’s contract  (Robert Mankin). M+E: ME Engineers. Construction: Hunt.  Cost $250-$300m


Capacity 23,500 Completion fall 2016


MD: Baltimore Arena  old 1st Mariner Arena. Private funding interest from Whiting--Turner. Likely to extend convention center, and add arena. Research phase. Maryland Stadium   hotel to create a destination package. Arena income   Capacity 18,500 Cost $900m


ME: Bowdoin University Arena University’s future building plans include a new hockey arena. Masterplan: Doug Voigt of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.

ME, Portland: Forefront Arena Arena/convention centre as part of the Forefront development at Thompson’s Point. Tenant: Maine Red Claws pro basketball team. Tax breaks under discussion. Cost $100m (total development)
