As well as being one of the top manufacturers in the world for performance audio,
Lab.gruppen’s move into the world of fixed installation applied all of those hallmark qualities to a new market sector, one that was perhaps more concerned with efficiency and soaring global energy prices.
The amplifier of choice for stadiums and arenas
With various
Lab.gruppen ranges becoming mainstays in various market sectors such as houses of worship, hospitality and education, it is their most powerful amplifier – the flagship PLM Series – that has become the platform of choice for stadiums and arenas around the globe.
Sonic performance beyond reproach is coupled with high power density (saving room), exceptional efficiency (reducing energy costs), digital audio networking (saving on expensive copper cable runs),
extremely low current draw (saving on UPS) and extensive continuous system monitoring tools (for emergency mass notification PA requirements). Add to this the world’s leading digital audio processing technology, and you have the pinnacle of audio amplification. Perfect, in other words, for an installation such as Barclays Center.
Joshua Evans, Technical Manager for the Applications Engineering and Training division at
Lab.gruppen’s parent company TC Group, has been at the forefront of the company’s continuing success in the stadium and arena sector. “There are a number of reasons why PLM Series is the perfect choice of amplifier for stadiums and sports installations,” he comments. “First, there is the financial aspect. Traditionally with two channel amplifiers, the cost of real estate space in a rack is around $3,000 per rack space including network ports and cooling. With the PLM amplifier, we minimise the network/cooling
and current draw requirements by combining the transport and control on a single network cable while eliminating redundant fabrication steps during the installation. This means that there is no need for expensive copper cable runs as everything runs down a single piece of Cat 5 cable. Also our asymmetrical power sharing technology allows every decibel of electrical energy to be applied to the system, putting the heat on the loudspeaker and not wasting it in the equipment room. This also allows for amplifier rooms to be shared with the structured cable IDF rooms.”
Another reason why PLM Series has seen such a success is the amplifier’s ability to not only provide the power for any new system, but its ability to fit into any third party control or loudspeaker solution, as Evans explains:
“The PLM Series allows you to add presets for existing loudspeakers, and the on-board digital signal processing allows visiting engineers to tie into the system, such is the familiarity
