arched cab windows below the horn just above the long hood. The radiator grille at the front of the long hood is also only half-height instead of full- height. The transition from long hood to cab was also done in a stepped man- ner on earlier models but on later mod- els a simple angled design was em- ployed. The NW2’s also had two exhaust stacks instead of a single stack.


Broadway Limited has been bring- ing high quality plastic models equipped with sound and DCC to the market for several years now. The


NW2 is one of the newest Paragon2 diesels to be produced and features DCC and conventional d.c. operation with sound being fully functional in both modes of operation. The locomo- tive also has details that are mostly found in brass locomotives. The sample reviewed here is decorated as Balti- more & Ohio NW2 No. 5065 and is a Phase V locomotive.


The first thing I noticed about this locomotive doesn’t even have anything to do with the locomotive itself. It is the packaging. The box has multiple layers of foam inserts that are contoured to the locomotive. Each layer locks the lo- comotive in place ensuring that ship- ping or handling damage is virtually impossible. Tucked away neatly in plastic wrapping is the locomotive, which can be easily removed. Upon a first look, I noticed the engine really captured the look of the real NW2 per-
