this project, Pat Davis and Jerry Larsen, have both accomplished con- siderable work on the layout. Pat’s tal- ents can be seen in our bridges, an im- pressive water scene with scratchbuilt dam, control panels, and much of the wiring. He has also constructed several buildings at Junction City, including Tequila Shiela’s tavern and house of ill repute (modified from a Bar Mills kit), a scratchbuilt water tank, and a highly detailed version of JL Innovative De- sign’s Storm Lake Mobilgas. The Ea- gles Nest rock quarry, with all of its conveyors, is a testament to Jerry’s modeling skills, as is the Blue Dia- mond plant at Junction City. Since Jer- ry’s career in aggregates culminated with his becoming president of Ameri- can Transit Mix, his next undertaking will be a cement plant located on the yet-to-be-completed upper level. Union Pacific conductors Mark Almquist, Mike Beard, and Larry Stern- berg have supplied handcrafted trees and roadway signs. Locomotive engineer Dale Fowlar’s SP-style depot, construct- ed from a Suydam kit, has found a home on our railroad, as have additional buildings supplied by fellow modelers John Hoffmann and Charley Lix. Light- ing this empire is the master of
all
things electric, Rod Loder of Salem, Ore- gon. His installation of strategically- placed overhead fluorescent fixtures il- luminates the room and upper levels while doubled-up LED rope lighting takes care of the lower decks. Loder Power & Light stands as a view block in Junction City, complete with a Micro Structures “Reddy Kilowatt” animated neon billboard on its roof.
WP Tunnel 12 (a.k.a. the watershed) BNSF engineer and modeler Jim
Pendley, of Ellensburg, Washington, has built himself a beautiful rendition of WP’s Feather River Canyon. One segment he modeled is the stretch be- tween Poe and Pulga, home to several tunnels and, until about 30 years ago, one watershed. Known as Tunnel 12, the shed, constructed of wood and steel, was built to divert a natural

spring bubbling off the canyon wall over the railroad and onto the river side of the right-of-way. Under UP ownership, the shed was eventually dismantled and replaced with piping.
Having known Jim since his days as an electrician for UP, I had marveled over his scratchbuilt Tunnel 12 during a visit to his layout. Unbeknownst to me, Jim, wanting to build a structure
