TECH awards 2013 dJ MixEr undEr $1000

Denon Dnx600

$699

HYPE High spec two-channel mixer with on-board soundcard, digital effects and MIDI capability.

GRIPE This mixer may not have quite the same

reputation or durability of the comparable Allen & Heath or Pioneer mixers.

Solid steel construction and high quality components combine to create a great mixer without the usual eye-watering price we have come to expect to pay for top-notch audio and

build quality. TECH VERDICT8/10

relooP RMx-80 DigitAl

$930

HYPE High quality 24-bit internal soundcard, MIDI mapping and a digital matrix function for ultimate routing flexibility of audio and MIDI inputs.

GRIPE It’s not particularly pretty to look at

and lacks the professional finish and feel of some of its competitors in this price bracket.

A mixer with a decent amount of features and some clever touches: definitely an option for DJs that require something slightly different.

TECH VERDICT 8/10 dJ sofTwarE

Serato DJ

$129

HYPE Direct integration with the CDJ2000nexus, a lovely new iPad remote controller app and less bugs than ever before.

GRIPE Many owners of controllers currently using Itch and DJ

Intro still have some time to wait before their devices will be supported by Serato DJ.

Serato DJ’s latest upgrade has enough new features to keep up with the competition and an innovative remote controller app for iPads to make this ever popular DJ

software even more alluring. TECH VERDICT9/10

mixVibeS CROss

$49.99

DeckaDance 2 $99

HYPE Optional DVS support, four decks, VST plug-in support and

killer new features like the Smartknobs will be very tempting indeed for DJs.

GRIPE The lack of two-way MIDI support to light up LEDs on

controllers will disappoint some.

Deckadance2 has been updated to bring its features in line with the competition and also manages to add in new unique tricks of its own.

TECH VERDICT8.2/10

HYPE This bit of DJing software has come of age now it has had a facelift.

GRIPE Not as robust as some of the

big boys.

This is a good alternative to NI Traktor or Serato’s Live. The new upgrades give Mixvibes Cross pro-level performance and it is without doubt great

value for money. TECH

VERDICT8/10

traktor PRO 2

$89

HYPE Loads of options on deck set-up. The new sample decks are amazing, auto beat matching and recognition is far tighter: Works a dream.

GRIPE So many possibilities, almost too

much choice.

One of the industry standards when it comes to digital DJing software, lots of fans, and now with the new upgrades it’s simply

amazing. TECH VERDICT9/10

Pioneer DJM250

$399

HYPE The baby of the Pioneer mixer range that still manages to punch above its weight, with the sound and build quality everyone has come to expect from Pioneer as well as a huge amount of inputs and outputs for its diminutive size.

GRIPE A few niggles can be found on

this mixer such as a poor placement of the cue and headphone control knobs and the lack of an additional mini-jack for headphones.

A Pioneer mixer with everything that comes with the brand name, at such a reasonable price that the few problems that can be found with the mixer can easily be

forgiven. TECH

Winner VERDICT8.5/10

Bringing club-style features to affordable functional mixers for DJs everywhere.

numark M2

$89

HYPE A fantastic build quality and good set of features for a seriously low price.

GRIPE What’s not to love at this

price? A cheap and cheerful

beginners. TECH VERDICT 8.5/10

allen &

HeatH xOne 22 $349

HYPE Two channels of top-notch

Allen & Heath quality, both in sound and build.

GRIPE The control panel layout is a

love it or hate it affair.

A good entry-level mixer that provides great value for money for those who can make do with two channels.

TECH VERDICT 7.5/10

The best digital DJing software on the planet, this is going to be close!

Pioneer RekORDBOx

FRee

HYPE Available for PC, Mac, Android and iOS with a fast and friendly user interface to create beat grids, cue points and playlists.

GRIPE There is no way to mix tracks within the

software.

The ultimate way to prepare tracks for use with Pioneer CDJs and controllers is also absolutely free and can be used on the go thanks to the wide variety of operating systems that this software is

available on. TECH VERDICT9/10
