DJ Kideva Talkin All That Jazz
(Remix) CDR 7.0
Every DJ should have a few off-the-wall quirky shots on their USB stick, and DJ Kideva can always be relied upon to provide them. Here’s another cracker.
White Lies There Goes Our Love Again
(Goose Remix) Fiction
9.0
Goose surfed the ‘nu-rave’ wave with their debut on Skint and were tipped to follow countrymen Soulwax to mega success. That didn’t quite work out, but after a re-invention they are now stadium-electro superstars in Europe and very much a Depeche Mode in waiting. The very best remixes take a prominent part of a song and place it in a totally different context, and here the White Lies basically provide a moody vocal for an epic Goose track.
Attaque Nightmares feat. Bones
(Remixes) Bad Life 9.0
Bones provided the distinctive vocals for Simian Mobile Disco’s defining moment ‘Hustler’, and here she works some similar magic to provide the basis for Attaque’s unique mutant electro-grime potential classic. Joe Farr’s remix sticks close to the feel of the original but adds some extra bounce, Luke Walker takes it downtempo a little and into later but slightly lighter territory, whilst IDC turns in an electro-rocking and rollocking feedback-fuelled three- minute romp.
Chela
Romanticize Kitsuné 5.0
Chelsea Wheatley is Chela, and to be honest the original is a bit of a middle of the road surprise release for Kitsuné. A full remix package adds some different flavours, with Gold Fields’ version taking it down a slightly more familiar smooth French-infused disco-y path. Of the others, the LeBruce remix drops the vocals down in pitch and adds some funky guitar for a very summery vibe. Pleasant, but nowhere near essential.

Techno Toolz BNR Trax 7.0
Thankfully, the ‘electro’ remit means that strict genre rules don’t really apply on this page and that allows a whole selection of the best elements of the many and varied forms of electronic and dance music to be brought to your attention. When something has ‘toolz’ in the title you know that it’s aimed firmly at the DJ, and anyone looking to drop some of the eclectic BNR mix of techno, electro and house into their sets won’t be disappointed.
Paul Rutherford
Get Real Selador 7.0
After Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Rutherford had a success with ‘Get Real’ at the height of acid house. The original was produced by ‘80s pop smoothie Martin Fry from ABC and has been bubbling around in various forms ever since, turning up in mixes ranging from Darren Emerson to Ivan Smagghe. Here, Emerson turns in a throbbing remix with a respectful acid feel and Just Be (aka Bushwacka) sticks even closer to the original template.
Plaster
Nemesis EP Touchin’ Bass 7.0
Gianclaudio Hashem Moniri and Giuseppe Carlini got together as Plaster in Rome in 2008, and having relocated to London they now hook up with Touchin’ Bass for this EP. Lead track ‘Walking On Deodron’ sets out the stall for a collection of throbs that belong in the dark hours in the room classically described by the Unabombers as “a basement with a single red lightbulb”. Indeed, ‘Reflex In The Gloom’ pretty much sums up the idea in name and nature.
S-File
Modulate GND
8.0
A label that crops up here with regularity means consistently high output. S-File’s releases, both as originals on GND and remixes for the likes of Bad Life and Hoshina Anniversary, plough a dark techno- like furrow that never descends into self-satisfied repetition but always has a dancefloor-orientated focus. ‘Modulate’ is a sure-fire club stormer from the off, ‘Purple Flash’ starts with a beguiling intro and bursts into a complex track — bringing to mind the best of Black Strobe.
The Analog Session Remixes 2
Hot Elephant Music 7.0
Alexander Robotnick hooked up with Ludus Pinsky to become The Analog Session initially to make videos, but it turned into an album and live project pretty swiftly. These are a couple of reworks from the 2010 release on This Is Music, seeing ‘N5 From Outer Space’ being slowed down, and ‘Funfare’ retooled for the dancefloor. All sounds involved are constructed by strictly analogue means, natch.
The Presets Youth In Trouble (Green
Velvet Remix) Modular Recordings 9.0
The Presets are deeply underrated outside of Australia. For all the talk of rock/dance crossover that crops up regularly, they are one of the few to actually pull off something unique. Add Green Velvet to the mix (literally) and you’ve definitely got something good going on. This isn’t even a single, but a bonus track from the new UK CD release of their album ‘Pacifica’ which came out in Oz last year, but it’s essential.
Turbo Turbo & S-File Kluster (Shinichi
Osawa Edit) GND promo 8.0
A promo of a Shinichi Osaw rework of a collaboration by Turbo Turbo & S-File, and with a bit of digging online you can get it for free!
Future Four This Is The Remix Of
The Future Four Phantasy Sound 6.0
Andy Meecham’s history includes The Emperor Machine, Bizarre Inc and Chicken Lips, and here his new project with Erol Alkan is remixed — with the highlight from Tuff City Kids.
Etienne de Crécy
Beats ‘n’ Cubes Vol 2 Pixadelic 7.0
The second EP, featuring tracks that have only been played in his Cube live sets, kicks off with a stormer called ‘We, Computers’ — well worth checking out.
ACID WASHEDRECORDMAKERS 01. PLASTIQUE DE REVE FEAT. GHOSTAPE ‘Love
Sometimes’ Disco Volante Recordings “The Swiss legend is back, teaming up with Ghostape for some summer haunting lyrics. It’s really driving, fun to play and dynamic.”
02. STUFF ‘Raw City’ Emma Music “House music should always sound like this. The bass is deep and large
(reminds a bit of LFO and Biosphere). Heavy atmosphere.”
03. DAFT PUNK ‘Get Lucky (FNMs Extended Disco Edit)’ CDR “The song of the summer. Filippo ‘Naughty’ Moscatello used the best parts
and realized the perfect edit to turn ‘Get Lucky’ into a house version.”
04. CASSIUS ‘Sound Of Violence (PiMO Remix)’ White “PiMO from Poland made this remix very Deviant Disco. Bright synths and
cool rhythms. We play this a lot when we’re getting happily drunk.” 05. YOM VAN HAVER ‘Myself Is Dead (Plastique de Reve
Remix)’ CDR “This is huge. The bass is menacing, the synth and pads reminds us of old school rave... the whole thing sounds really modern, epic... this is massive!”
06. FRANCIS BEBEY ‘Bissao (Pilooski Edit)’ Born Bad Records “African vibe meets Pilooski’s weirdness! The atmosphere of this remix is
once again very deviant, trippy.”
07. MOLECULE ‘Ultra Bleu’ Mille Feuilles “We are right now remixing this track. It is a good bridge between techno
and EBM (not EDM!). It is a dark dance piece.”
08. HOSTAGE ‘Pickle’ Origami Sound “Reminds us a bit of the Sativae label and those crazy guys from Scotland,
but in a modern and updated version. Strong techno, fantastic atmosphere!”
09. ACID WASHED ‘Nautilus’ Recordmakers “A track from our new album ‘House Of Melancholy’. Deep, underwater
techno... This is how we love dance music: melodic, epic, morphing etc.” 10. SINNER DC ‘Endless Valley (Freund Der Familie Remix)’ Mental
Groove “Slow and ambient music for chilling days... Quite indie, but twisted.”
