The elephant in the rave
The cancellation of the final day of New York’s Electric Zoo festival after two deaths, allegedly drug related, casts a shadow over the marketability of EDM. Yet rather than finger- wagging at this recent tragedy, we should take a look at the wider issues surrounding recreational intoxication. By the legal sanctioning of certain drugs, and the outlawing of others that are slowly being scientifically recognised as less harmful in their unadulterated form, the so called War On Drugs is putting plenty of people at risk — of everything from unnecessary physical harm to criminalisation. The solution seems more education, research and eventually policy change, but in the meantime read up, take every precaution you can and continue to rave safe.
