QUICKIES Auntie Flo

The Doodle/Lumbalu Huntleys and Palmers 9.5

Weighty afro-funk/ highlife edits from the brilliant Brian d’Souza, aka Auntie Flo, who tucks in some smart production tricks for optimum effect in the club.

Emiliana Torrini Speed Of Dark (Andrew Weatherall

Remix) Rough Trade 9.0

Weatherall’s idea of ‘80s-style dream-pop a la AR Kane is imagined in this kaleidoscopic remix of the lovely Emiliana Torrini.

Bryan Ferry Don’t Stop The Dance

Brasstronaut

Opportunity Millionhands 8.0

The name gives it away - brass-heavy dub-disco tunes with remixes from the likes of Jacques Renault and O F F M S G.

Eric Copeland

Masterbater DFA 7.5

The Black Dice man returns to DFA and updates the more experimental sound of no-wave in downtown NYC, 1980. Noisy, impenetrable sonics inspired by the likes of Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth, Rhys Chatham etc.

(Remixes) Virgin/Universal 8.0

This was never going to be easy; remixing one of the ultimate Balearic classics and party-closing anthems must be one of the most terrifying, yet equally delightful tasks. Enter the likes of Todd Terje, Eric Duncan, Psychemagik, Greg Wilson, Punks Jump Up and Sleazy McQueen to step up to the challenge. The mood of the whole EP switches erratically, but it’s probably the rubbery arpeggios on Todd Terje’s version that takes the lead. Eric Duncan and Psychemagik take silver with some modern twists in their respective versions, but maintain the perennial, dreamy spirit of the original.

Chloe

Smash Throne Of Blood 8.5

Once-upon-a-time resident at the sadly defunct Le Pulp club in Paris, Chloe adds to TOB’s impressive catalogue. Evoking some of that lamented energy from her Thursday night residency, ‘Smash’ includes remixes by Phil Kieran and My Favorite Robot. The original versions of ‘Smash’ and ‘Time Right’ salute icy cool EBM and jagged, new-wave inspired techno - perfect box staples for this likes of Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe etc.

BRASSICACIVIL MUSIC

01. ZOMBY ‘With Love’ 4AD “I feel like I’m reading someone’s personal diary when I hear this record. Fun

for all the 30-something family here.”

02. MØ ‘Maiden’ Turntable Kitchen “Arguably the best guitar line ever, subtle head-nodder of a groove, vocals

from some spirit world I’d like to visit one day.”

03. HEINRICH DRESSEL/CESTRIAN ‘Split EP’ Cyberdance “More uncompromising ‘redundant drum machine’ heat from the inimitable

Cyberdance.”

04. OM UNIT ‘Aeolian EP’ Civil Music “The most impressive engineer of electronic beats around today, in my

opinion.”

05. SEVERED HEADS ‘Adenoids 1977 - 1985’ Sevcom “If you think modern music is bad, luckily the past is an endless reservoir of

absolutely mind-blowing material that will take several lifetimes to discover.” 06. FATIMA YAMAHA ‘What’s A Girl To Do (Up In The Matrixx Mixx

By Matrixxman)’ Not On Label “A massive beef-to-the-floor version of an already beautiful melody remixed by the mad inventor Matrixxman. DX heaven.”

07. MILD PERIL ‘Alpha Zone’ Vivod “It’s hard to believe this was made in the last few years. Aside from an

authentically vintage-sounding production, it’s a spine-tingling piece of beautiful electronic music.”

08. THE TIME & SPACE MACHINE ‘Pill Party In India (Psyche-

magik Remix)’ Tirk “Sounds like something an early Ozric Tentacles may have written had they been slightly more conscious of dancing punters.”

09. NENEH CHERRY & AFRIKA BABY BAM ‘Nina’ Smalltown

Supersound “‘My life is like an island’ - perhaps the most optimistic lyrics ever set to a Four Tet-produced Afro-jazz sample wig-out.”

10. EDMX ‘Frozen Stomp’ Power Vacuum “Hard, hard shit that will ramp up the anxiety levels of any rave.”

Dan Bodan Anonymous (UNO NYC

Remixes) DFA

8.0

Bodan’s spectral-pop appeal has earned him a duet with Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor for the previous ‘Under A Cancer Sky’, leading to an immediate DFA contract. The label, boasting a busy release schedule this year, set a remix EP of 2013’s ‘Anonymous’ with additional productions from artists on hip New York neighbor, UNO NYC - home to the likes of Mykki Blanco and CFCF. For this release, Kuhrye-oo, Gobby and Fur charm with their ultra-vivid versions.

Primal Scream Invisible City (Daniel Avery

Remixes) Ignition 9.5

What a year it’s been so far for Daniel Avery: since scoring for the Fabric mix series, he’s bagged a monthly show on Rinse FM and announced an album debut to

be released later in the year. In between all of this and a busy DJ schedule, Avery drops two potent remixes of the Scream’s ‘Invisible City’, throwing down his signature style of mid-tempo motorik and analogue-rich melody in both ‘Drone City’ and ‘Kill Light’ versions.

Tarjei Nygard

Hardkokt Fullpupp 8.0

Following up the ace from Prins Thomas and DJ Sotofett previously, new talent from the Nordic disco scene arrives on the label. Tarjei Nygard released earlier on Sccucci Manucci and now enjoys a full EP to homself, taking the label’s sound back to familiar cosmic disco territory. Pinpoint moments are the bouncy, polyrhythmical ‘highlife’ inspired disco of ‘Katapult’ and the skewed, bubbling radiophonics on ‘Brosteinsjungel’.

The Time & Space Machine

The Magic Hour EP Tirk

9.0

A brilliant new EP from The Time & Space Machine that nods to the hypnotic motorik of Neu!, the space-rock of classic Hawkwind, and the psychedelic spirit of The United States Of America. To accompany, Brit-pop duo, Cornershop, make a surprise appearance as remixers and keep the mood suitably fuzzy, whilst Snorkel liberally applies the

Charles Manier

Electrocution Kode

10

Ahead of a full-length release for Traxx’s fledgling Kode label comes this limited, three- track, vinyl-only EP of solid EBM/minimal synth cuts to satiate the appetite of those starved of Manier material. Last heard on Ghostly back in 2002 on the superb ‘Bang Bang Lover’ release, Manier (now revealed as the multi- talented Tadd Mullinix, aka Dabrye and James T. Cotton) stirs up the buzz again with this tough, tight-limbed tribute to CH-BB/Liaisons Dangereuses. Get on this one immediately.

heavy rock breaks for a schizoid, Cherrystones-style freak-out.

Tiedye Road Less Travelled (Still

Going & DJ Kaos Remixes) Gomma 8.5

Swedish duo Tiedye switch up the dream-pop sound that we heard on their Italians Do It Better debut for this direct, soulful/ psychedelic disco trip. Having the hallmarks of a potential hit, ‘Road Less Travelled’ trailblazes the current indie-pop-rock- disco zeitgeist and could sit comfortably alongside the likes of Tame Impala etc. The single includes two remixes from DJ Kaos and DFA affiliates Still Going, who both substitute the theme for more proto-house inspired versions.
