Pioneer CDJ350

$530

HYPE The Pioneer CDJ deck for those on a budget with USB storage device and RekordBox support in order for DJs to prep before a set.

GRIPE The smaller non-weighed jog-wheels

and lack of features found on the other CDJs may leave some people feeling serious deck envy.

The CDJ player for DJs who want USB and Rekordbox support that don’t have rich parents and are unwilling to rob a bank to support their musical habit.

VeStax PMC580

$1660

HYPE A nice build quality complete with a slick finish compliments the excellent sound quality to create a truly professional mixer.

GRIPE The large external power

supply, high price tag and lack of a few nice to have features make this mixer less desirable.

Some very nice features in a lovely if somewhat expensive package.

more detailed.

numark MixDeCk exPRess

$499

HYPE Two CD players, dual USB ports, a standalone three-channel mixer and an in-built soundcard make for a seriously feature-packed DJ workstation at a very reasonable price.

GRIPE The plastic case and unrefined

styling detract from the professional appeal.

when connected to a computer. TECH VERDICT

Pioneer DJM2000 nexus

$2740

HYPE Absolutely brilliant mixer. The ability to resample audio makes the DJM2000 Nexus an exciting prospect for DJs who like to add a little more to their sets.

GRIPE At this price it is solely in the domain of the

professionals.

Pioneer’s flagship mixer is more than the sum of its parts. When used to its full potential the DJM2000nexus can easily be considered an instrument in its own right: amazing stuff.

Denon Dn-x1700

$1929 HYPE

32 -bit digital to analogue converters, R-core power transformers, film capacitors and resistors demonstrate the absolute commitment to using only the highest quality components.

GRIPE Given the price tag there a few

technical niggles as well as missing features that are not easily forgiven.

A mixer that is built with one thing in mind above all else, sound quality, and the results are stunning.
