Three finest moments in Rhonda’s history

1. “The first night we ever did Rhonda. Even though it was new and not insanely packed like these days, it was a crew of artists, musicians, and party people that all knew exactly what we were doing — the total right vibe for seedy disco underground.”

2. “We did a tribute to Donna Summer at Rhondavous the day after she died. We quickly changed all the branding to A Club Called Donna in her memory, and for the mark she left on disco and the music that inspires us. Everybody went wild that night, especially during the confetti drop during ‘I Feel Love’.”

3. “The first time we did a Coachella pool party, Azari & III came out and played a live set. We all got a little too inebriated and may or may not have hallucinated our way around the party. The crowd was amazing. Everybody was going so hard that day. It started a tradition for us to do it bigger and bigger every year.”

Resident DJ and Rhonda co- founder Goddollars presents four club classics.

German artist Tensnake. The rest, as they say, is history. “The original subtext of Rhonda that we started with was house, disco and polysexual hard partying. At the time there was no real mixed party where gay and straights alike could party together,” Gregory says.

Walking back into the night with James Murphy it’s quickly apparent how successful they have become. Almost impossible to get into after 10pm, it truly has become the place to be in the city of Los Angeles. The reason why Rhonda has people coming back for more is the attention to detail and the money that the group puts back into every party they have. Before you can even enter the party at the door you meet the transsexual bouncer Phyllis Navidad who ultimately gets to decide if you enter or not. It is the perfect way to let the rabbit out of the hat before entering, and let everyone know that regardless of sexual preference you are allowed to be yourself.

Rhonda is truly a sum of all her parts. The polysexual partying that the night aims to achieve is a breath of fresh air in the monotonous landscape that has become clubbing in the city of LA. How can you describe something that is as immersive and spectacular as Rhonda? It is something that you have to experience yourself. With the creation of her own record label — Rhonda International — not too far down the line in 2013, Rhonda is looking to expand her influence across the world. Rhonda International may not be the first great party in this world, but it sure hopes to be the fucking last.

“Battle-tested, pure peaktime heat.”

BRAINSTORM “Lovin’ Is Really My Game” Tabu

“Harvey dropped this in Austin and I saw a shy library boy turn into a magic twirling bird of fire.”

MEN WITHOUT HATS “The Safety Dance”

SUZANNE KRAFT “No Worries” Young Adults

“We love a narrative to run its course during the night and this song is perfect for bridging the gap between pre-boil and ‘OK, let’s do this’.”

“In the land of jaded DJs and overactive dance music press it’s incredibly important to have a party that can drop this non- ironically and have it explode the dancefloor (this only applies to the extended version, of course). These are a spattering of songs that we might play but our oeuvre changes dynamically.”
