Ellis Emperors find favour with Welsh wind farm Emperor cable cleats from Yorkshire manufacturer, Ellis are being installed on RWE npower renewables’ Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, which is under construction eight miles off the North Wales coast. The €2 billion development is currently one of the
largest offshore construction projects anywhere in Europe and, when operational in 2014, will feature 160 turbines, generating enough energy to meet the annual demands of 400,000 homes. Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats were specified by RWE
through its UK distributor, ETS Cable Components. Ellis’ cable cleats are designed and manufactured wholly in the UK and are used to secure electrical cables in a manner that can withstand the forces generated by the cables, including those generated during a short circuit fault. Its Emperor cleats not only provide ultimate corrosion protection – even in the harshest of environments – but they are quick and easy to install, and feature an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit conditions. n

New 2013 circuit protection catalogue from Crabtree Crabtree has announced its latest catalogue for 2013, showcasing an extensive range of circuit protection products for commercial and industrial applications. A key feature of this latest catalogue is the scope of the product range, which extends from simple stand-alone switch fuse products, through to fully assembled switchboards. The new
catalogue includes Loadstar TPN distribution boards, which cater for a variety of commercial and light industrial applications. Also Polestar Compact
TPN distribution boards are included, for heavy-duty MCB applications (up to 16kA). Crabtree Powerstar panel boards are listed in two
basic frame sizes: Powerstar 125 and Powerstar 250. For each frame size there is a dedicated range of MCCBs (25 to 65kA) plus incoming and outgoing metering, providing the basic elements required for most power installations. Panel board ratings range from 250A to 800A and MCCB out-goers range from 15A to 250A. J and G frame MCCB boards can be easily mixed and configured on site into more than 100 bespoke assemblies. n Call 01543 455000 or visit

New Crabtree video demonstrates easy on-site customisation of panel boards A new video for electrical contractors who install MCCB panel boards has just been released, designed to show how meeting the needs of a modern power distribution and monitoring system is made much easier using Crabtree Powerstar panel boards. The video is instructional and informative, giving an
overview of the features of the range available and the resulting benefits for the installer. Most importantly, it shows how installers can easily assemble the equivalent of a bespoke factory-built assembly on site, for themselves, complete with incoming and outgoing metering and integral surge protection. This can be achieved as a result of Powerstar’s major benefit; J and G MCCBs can be mixed and configured on site into customised assemblies. This is unlike other brands, where the panel boards are supplied to the market in pre-configured split-load type arrangements (eg. with only 4J or 4G out-goers), limiting on-site flexibility and often forcing installers to use the more expensive devices. n

of Amtech Estimating and provides four easy ways to take-off accurate measurements and add them to an estimate. It can be used to count items (eg. sockets, valves), measure lengths of materials (eg. cable, pipework), track and measure the total paths of materials, or measure floor area for cost per square metre reporting. All standard drawing scales are included, as well as a calibration tool. For each measurement the units (metric or imperial) are simply selected from a drop-down menu. Each item or material is then selected in the Luckins
database for pricing, assembled into kits where appropriate and added to the estimate. n

A step above for Dimplex towel rails Dimplex has added a new compact ‘stepped’ towel rail to its collection of electric heated towel rails, perfect for bathrooms and wet rooms where space is at a premium. The 120W CPTS ‘stepped’ design offers the capacity
to dry several towels at once, quickly and easily, within a stylish compact design thanks to a series of 12 rails, including three projecting rungs that provide extra capacity.
Simple and fast to install, the sleek chrome finish design has a depth of just 90mm, height of 800mm and width of 400mm, which means it is ideally suited for smaller spaces, a growing feature of wet room and en- suite installations. Crucially, it is also IPX5 rated for use in wet areas and BEAB approved for extra peace of mind. Like all three models in the new compact range
from Dimplex, the CPTS design offers low running costs and operates independently of the gas central heating system to provide cheap, safe and virtually maintenance-free towel warming throughout the year. n Call 0844 879 3587 or visit
