[ Report: The Electric Event ]
SHOW TIME S
taged over three days in June at the ICC Birmingham, The Electric Event certainly set the benchmark as the electrical industry event of the year. After months of meticulous planning, the exciting
new trade show, developed by the ECA, made its debut between 20 and 22 June, and immediately proved a huge success, bringing together the UK electrical industry under one roof for an innovative, groundbreaking gathering. Combining the ECA’s traditional high-level
conference, Meet the Suppliers exhibition, a series of Technology Live technical workshops, plus the presentation of the inaugural ECA Annual Awards at a glittering gala evening, The Electric Event offered something for everyone – from the largest to the smallest ECA member company. The Electric Event started off with the
inauguration of the new president of the ECA, Phil Fagg – the 100th president in the association’s history. The high-level ECA conference then proceeded with a packed room full of delegates enjoying a series of keynote presentations from a range of guest speakers on vital subjects for the industry – providing insights, updates and valuable information on potential market opportunities. Bringing the traditional ECA conference back to
the UK, rather than staging it overseas, made the new Electric Event more accessible to the wider industry. None the less, it still maintained the key elements that make it such a valuable forum for the industry. With topics ranging from building information modelling and the future of home automation to smart meters, smart grids and developments in fire and security, speakers delivered some thought- provoking views on how the electrical industry will develop over the coming years and identified some key opportunities for new business. Over the three days, more than 1,000 delegates
attended The Electric Event – including a number of day delegates for Day Two, which was dedicated to the Meet the Suppliers exhibition and Technology Live workshop sessions. The exhibition showcased new products and services and enabled delegates to talk directly with key suppliers, while some fantastic workshops by manufacturers and other industry associations delivered detailed technical presentations on equipment, innovations and important industry issues. After further keynote presentations on the third
day – including an entertaining and inspirational speech by special guest, TV presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle – it was time for the finale. A magnificent
