[ Report: The Electric Event ] Presidential address

The first day of the conference began with the inauguration of new ECA president Phil Fagg, who received his badge of

office in traditional manner from immediate past president Paul McNaughton. Fagg said he was incredibly humbled to be addressing the audience as the 100th president of the association, and that it was ‘an honour and a privilege’. Fagg reflected on his background, working

his way up from an apprentice to managing director of GW&E Wright over his 40 years in the industry, and on the developments in the industry over the years. Fagg emphasised the value of ECA

membership to businesses. He said: ‘Service is at the core of the ECA, from its in-house experts to the regional team, all of whom go above and beyond the call of duty, from helping members with day-to-day queries to setting up regional meetings that provide a perfect platform to share information with other like-minded professionals. For me, the ECA is an extension of my own in-house team.’ ‘The ECA is also instrumental in setting the

technical standards we adhere to, to ensuring the voice of the electrical contracting industry is heard at the very highest levels of government,’ Fagg said. He also spotlighted the importance of recent ECA lobbying work on apprenticeships and fair payment. ‘We are here for all of our members –

whether they’re large or small – as a powerful support network, a vital hub and a virtual safety net to help ECA members to prosper and develop.’ On The Electric Event, Fagg said: ‘This

is what the ECA is all about – helping our members to position themselves for success.’ He urged members to make the most of the ECA: ‘It’s there to help you survive, thrive and position yourself for success. Whether you’re in it for first-class services, the networking, or the chance to shape the future of the industry, there is something for everyone, and I would urge you all to tap in to this vital network.’ Also receiving their badges of honour were

new senior vice-president Andy Basham and vice-president Dave Bromyard.
