Waterfront looks at what to expect from Her Majesty’s spectacular 60th Anniversary Coronation Festival this July

Hosted by Te Royal Warrant Holders Association, this special weekend will take place in the Buckingham Palace gardens providing a truly magnificent setting for this special event. With decades of British innovation to celebrate, the festival will be divided into four areas of Design and Technology, Food and Drink, Style Pursuits and Pastimes and Home and Gardens. All companies involved are certified by Royal Warrant for their service to the royal family over the years and are renowned for their high standards of quality. wonderful celebration of the performing arts with the spectacular Coronation Gala evening performances. Tese gala evenings will be hosted by Coronation Festival partners Jaguar Land Rover, GlaxoSmithKline and Bentley, including some of the best in British music with names such as Katherine Jenkins, Russel Watson and Katie Melua fitting the bill. Tis begins with the opening gala providing a composition of some of the finest in classical music as Te Fanfare Trumpeters from the Household Division and soprano singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa perform Te National Anthem to set the mood and begin the musical journey through the ages of Her Majesty’s reign. A series of scenes will accompany this evening to celebrate Britain’s influence on the pop music industry since the 1960s, paired with a nod to some of the most iconic British films, from James Bond to Te Avengers which will be celebrated in a carefully composed theatrical dance performance by the National Youth Ballet. Other special performances will be


conducted by the National Youth Ballet who recently celebrated their 25th birthday and are showcasing their talent across four days of the festival. Tirty teenagers between the ages of eight and eighteen will bring to life some of the nation’s best loved characters in an enchanting performance of contemporary ballet. With beloved characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Kenneth Graham’s Wind in the Willows making an appearance, guests can expect to be immersed in a world of childhood dreams across the palace grounds. Amongst some of these magical performances will be a showcase of excerpts from Te Alice Polka. Choreographed by Anna Meadmore, this piece was originally premiered at Buckingham Palace and commissioned by Queen Victoria to celebrate her daughter Alice’s sixth birthday. Tere also follows a piece inspired by the book of Te Prince of Wales, the Pas de Deux from Te Old Man of Lochnagar. However the influence of the performing


arts does not end with the stage, as some classical dancers will take to the catwalk as part of a special ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ collection, dressed as swans from the world famous ballet Swan Lake. As we are a nation which prides ourselves as one of the world’s fashion capitals it comes as no wonder that the fashion industry has prominence throughout the festival celebrations with a variety of different catwalks and fashion showcases. Consisting of a range of different glamorous fashion themes from a ‘day at the races’ to a ‘masquerade ball’, each garment on display will be completely made from Royal Warrant holder products. Some of the designers on show will be Lock Couture by Sylvia Fletcher, John Lewis, DAKS and House of Fraser amongst others, providing a large
