News Cabling & Cable Management Newly launched cable assembly capability
turnaround, high quality cable assemblies for existing and new customers.
The facility will have the capability to manufac- ture all types of cable assemblies from standard RG and Ufl cables through to semi-rigid cable types and low-loss microwave cables.
INTELLICONNECT (EUROPE) HAS announced the development of its Cable Assembly business that will be initially located at its Chelmsford HQ. Arden Lawson, former production manager at Rhophase, will be managing the expanded facility which will be staffed by an experienced cable assembly manufacturing team ensuring quick
Roy Phillips, managing director of Intelliconnect, commented, “Although we have always made cable assemblies, this expansion to our capability and significant investment means that we will achieve our goal of becoming a major player in this market. Connecting Cannon Place with the Metalynx system
WIELAND ELECTRIC HAS supplied its Metalynx armoured, structured wiring system to enable fast connection of lighting, small power and fan coil units at Cannon Place - a 389,000ft2
commercial
complex above the Cannon Street major transport interchange in London. Wieland’s Metalynx structured wiring was chosen as it facilitated fast installation due to the off-site man- ufacture of the Metalynx System. The ‘plug and play’ functionality of the Metalynx System proved invalu- able to connect the supply of lighting fittings, fan coil units, small power and cleaner sockets within the complex simply and easily, whilst waste was kept to the bare minimum. Cannon Place’s principal design elements include natural daylight where possible throughout the complex and lighting control working in conjunc- tion with daylight linking. The lighting design uses high efficiency louvres and high frequency control gear linked via a DALI network to a programmable control system. This was also integrated through Wieland’s Metalynx system to save time on-site and keep costs to a minimum.

New submarine cable contract
PRYSMIAN GROUP HAS been awarded a new contract worth more than $100m for the supply and installation of submarine cables for a section of ExxonMobil’s existing offshore operations in the US.
The scope of work involves the replacement of approximately 50km of submarine power cables with increased capacity 40kV EPR submarine cables designed for water depths of up to 450m. The cables will supply electric power from the existing shore- based generating plant to off- shore platforms.
and other power requirements located above the ceil- ing. The armouring is provided by die-cast aluminium housings for the connectors and accessories, and flexi- ble metal conduit for the cables. The cables are all low smoke, zero halogen insulated, with single cores com- pliant with BS 7211 and multi-cores constructed to BS 7211. The identification colours of the cores comply with industry requirements.

Securing gas specification down under
EMPEROR CABLE CLEATS from North Yorkshire manufacturer Ellis have been specified for use in a project aimed at converting coal seam gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Australian state of Queensland. The reason for the specification, which was secured by Ellis’ Australian distributor, Sydney-based IPD Industrial Products, was down to the product’s capability to withstand possible 111kA peak system faults. Furthermore, the Emperor’s 316L stainless steel construction means it is well suited for use in the harsh Australian conditions. Tony Conroy, Ellis’ export sales director, said, “Australia has a booming economy and a rich array of natural resources, a combination that means it is well established as one of our most important export markets. “The size and scale of projects currently underway or in the pipeline is staggering and ensuring we are in the frame when they come along is a job that IPD excels in.”

S4 JUNE 2013 Cabling & Cable Management
The turnkey project will be executed by Prysmian with the submarine power cable being supplied by its Drammen, Norway factory and installation being undertaken using the Cable Enterprise laying vessel. The Cable Enterprise will undergo significant modification work in 2014 to be converted to a full Dynamically Positioned (DP) vessel in readiness for the instal- lation works. “We are very pleased to under- take this cable replacement opera- tion. We have previously supplied and installed other sec- tions of ExxonMobil’s subsea power network in the United States,” stated Marcello Del Brenna, CEO Prysmian Powerlink. Prysmian has been taking part in the development of some of the most strategic submarine power interconnections world- wide, supporting the global upgrade of power grids for a better use of available resources with its cable technology.
