Legrand sizes up
office market standard with new grommets
L
egrand has moved to create a new industry standard by launching six inch versions of its access and cleaners’ grommets. The new Electrak products were developed in response to two key market changes, which mean the current standard five inch solution is no longer the most suitable option.
Steve Marr,
esigned with wet areas in view, the new O6 WetLine photocells from sensor market leader ifm electronic may be small, but contain of lot of technology. ifm electronic pioneered the manufacture of truly food-grade sensor housings, and has followed this up with the O6 WetLine - a stainless steel sensor rated IP69K, addressing many needs of users with wet production areas. Ease of use is important, and the ifm designers didn’t overlook this aspect. Important details were considered, so for example, the LED indicators are rendered highly visible by being embedded in a dark background material for the highest contrast. The full O6 WetLine range also includes standard (energetic) diffuse reflection types, with a range up to 500mm; retro-reflective (reflex) versions with 5m range; and through-beam (transmitter/receiver) with 10m range. All are available with either a 2m fixed cable, or a short cable fitted with an M12 connector. All O6 types can switch light-on or dark-on (equating to normally open or normally closed), and both PNP and NPN switching variants are on offer.

Legrand’s power distribution business unit, said: “Increased data requirements have led to more data cables being installed, while increased data speed has resulted in thicker cables. “Meanwhile, the 17th Edition need for RCD protection of sockets used by ordinary persons has meant that space in cleaners’ grommets is also at a premium.” Legrand’s new Electrak solutions tackle these problems by delivering the additional space required, but without the need to step up to eight inch products.

Wieland Connects Cannon Place W

ieland Electric has supplied its Metalynx armoured, structured wiring system to enable fast connection of lighting, small power and fan coil units at Cannon Place, a 389,000sq ft landmark commercial complex above the Cannon Street major transport interchange, in the City of London. The new eight-storey development has been constructed over and around Network Rail and London Underground lines, and incorporates upgraded facilities for both stations. The mechanical and electrical services were specified by Foggo Associates and Wieland’s Metalynx structured wiring, was chosen as it facilitated fast installation due to the offsite manufacture of the Metalynx System. The ‘plug and play’ functionality of the Metalynx System proved invaluable to connect the supply of lighting fittings, fan coil units, small power and cleaner sockets within the complex simply and easily, whilst waste was kept to the bare minimum.

ow do you balance the safety of people, plant, premises and continuity of electrical supply for today’s complex loads? Commercial & industrial installations incorporating 13 amp sockets require residual current protection for staff using electrical equipment. Electrical loads such as UPS, Pumps, Scanners, SMPSs and other inverter based products can interfere with standard AC residual current protection devices.
