Products Editor’s Choice A calculated approach to energy saving
to the production of a detailed energy saving report. All data entered can be stored for later recall and, if necessary, modification. Stored data can also be used as the basis of new projects.
Eaton has recently introduced it new Energy Savings Estimator software package which enables industrial and commercial users of fans and pumps to calculate quickly and easily how much they could reduce their energy costs and cut their carbon emissions by fitting variable speed drives.
The new software, which produces detailed reports ideal for inclusion in business case propos- als, is available for free download at
http://bit.ly/EnergySavingsEstimator.
The new software works on a project basis - a pro- ject might, for example, be a single fan or pump, or it could be a whole plant with multiple fans and pumps in any combination. In either case, users are guided through a simple five stage process that leads
Increasing connector capability
As an extension to its assembling capability for TT Electronics AB Connectors, Aerco now assembles the ABMP, a new connector that adds twin- ax and quadrax capability to the AB range of ABCIRP connectors. AB’s ABCIRP is a range of circular connectors derived from Mil-C-5015 and VG95234 specifications. Designed specifically for the railway and mass transportation environments, they are approved to the French rail specification N.F.F. 61030 and there- fore can be used by any sub-contractor on any train operated by SNCF. ABMP connectors have positive lock, quick disconnect, reverse bayonet cou- pling mechanism plus twin-ax and quadrax capability. Four styles of multi-pole contacts are available in any combination of co-ax, twin-ax, tri-ax or quadrax. The connectors are shock and vibration tested to BS EN 6137 Cat 1. Aerco

The first stage of the energy saving calculation involves entering project and site information. The second stage allows the user to enter utility costs, and the third is the detailed project definition. Here, information for each pump or fan is entered, includ- ing the type of flow control already in use, if any; the motor rating and efficiency; the duty cycle, which is conveniently displayed in graphical as well as numerical form; and the operating hours. Provision is also made for entering the price of the variable speed drive, the cost of fitting it and the value of any incentives available for enhancing energy efficiency. If Eaton drives are specified, the prices of suitable units are loaded automatically. The fourth stage calculates and displays the esti- mated energy savings in kWh and in cost terms, together with estimated carbon footprint reduction in tonnes of CO2
. The estimated payback period for
the project is also shown, and a graph of payback versus time can also be displayed. The fifth and final stage presents the project data and the calculated results in the form of a detailed report. Eaton

Optimal hygiene
Rittal has extended its range of protec- tion categories for its Hygienic Design range of enclosures. With immediate effect all Hygienic Design Compact enclosures and Terminal boxes satisfy the demands of protection categories IP66, IP69K, along with NEMA types 12, 13 and 4X with the addition of NEMA 3R for its range of HD-KL Terminal boxes. With the extended protection cate- gories the range of products can be cleaned faster and easier, thus reducing the down-time for scheduled mainte- nance and increasing the end user’s pro- ductivity, efficiencies and profitability. TDK Corporation has announced an exten- sion to its TDK-Lambda Z+ Series of pro- grammable DC power supplies with the addition of the higher power Z+800 range. These 800W programmable power sup- plies offer the same features as the lower power Z+400 and Z+200 ranges and address the need for high quality bench-top power supplies for the R&D environment. The TDK-Lambda Z+800 range shares the same package size as the Z+200 and Z+400 and is well suited for ATE and OEM 2U rack mounted or integrated applications such as test and measure- ment, semiconductor burn-in, component test, laser diode, heater supplies, RF amplifiers and electromagnets. Models in the 800W Z+ Series are avail-
able with output voltages up to 100V DC and output currents up to 72A. The Z+800 units can operate in either constant current or constant voltage modes and accept a uni- versal (85-265V AC) input. Higher power systems can be achieved by connecting up to six identical units in parallel with active current sharing.
All models can be programmed via the
front panel or remotely using USB, RS232/485 and analogue interfaces. Optional LAN, GPIB (IEEE488) and isolat- ed analogue programming interfaces are available. CE marked in accordance with the Low Voltage Directive, the Z+800 conforms to EN55022-B, FCC part-15-B and VCCI-B for conducted and radiated EMI. Safety approvals include
Green power innovation
Socomec is offering a range of integrated products and services which have been developed to address what are considered to be four of the most critical power related issues in the data centre arena - availability, efficiency, capacity and flexibility. Socomec’s latest development includes a new addition to its Green Power 2.0 UPS range - a trans- formerless 500kVA unit. At 500kVA/kW this new UPS combines energy efficiency with unity power (Power Factor = 1.0) to provide a future-proof criti- cal power solution. With units available from 10kW to 500kW, the Socomec Green Power (GP) 2.0 UPS range has been developed to allow organisations to protect their mission critical infrastructures and ensure that their UPS equipment is fully compatible with the latest developments in server architecture.

GP 2.0 provides users with full rated power (kW =
kVA) supporting full loads up to 35°C in accordance with IEC 62040-3. The unity power factor enables the GP 2.0 to deliver more power from the same sized cabinet.
The GP 2.0 fulfils current and future European Code of Conduct for Data Centre regulations to 2014. Socomec
